The GSPCA is asking could you vote for someone in Guernsey for an Animal Welfare Award with Ceva for their work, commitment or volunteering contributions.
We are blessed with many volunteers and committed individuals that help across the Bailiwick of Guernsey in animal welfare around the clock every day.
On Saturday between 2 and 6pm local photographer Lisa Wright spent a very busy afternoon taking pictures of the many dogs that arrived for their Pet Portraits followed by their owners at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews this weekend.
A very popular afternoon was had and the many that attended the Animal Shelter were able to pick up some Christmas gifts and goodies for pets and loved ones.
With cold weather on the way the GSPCA want pet owners to consider all the animals of Guernsey. During a cold snap the GSPCA are on full alert, ready to deal with a variety of animals affected by the low temperatures.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'We have had a lovely Summer this year and many animals have done extrremely well in the wild but with this coming cold snap here at the GSPCA we are concerned for them, pets and other animals kept outside.'
Last night we held our fourth Volunteer Induction Evening where 24 people of all ages came along to find out about volunteering for the GSPCA.
Despite the weather the group of 24 potential new volunteers braved the weather to visit the Shelter to learn about the GSPCA, learnt about the roles available to help in, how to work safely at the GSPCA and were even given some home work to do.
Last night the 2nd Cub Scouts with 4 leaders visited the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Despite being a wet, windy, dark evening the group of 30 enjoyed a tour of the premises learning about the work of the GSPCA and caring for animals.
The GSPCA are always working to educate all age groups about our work and caring for animals.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager who took the tour around the Shelter said 'The 2nd Cub Scout group from Capelles were a fantastic group who were very well behaved and full of questions and stories about animals.'
The GSPCA would like to extend a huge thank you to Richard Hardie (you may know from the Livingroom) who between the dates of Monday the 14th October and the 13th November did not drink any alcohol to raise funds for the GSPCA.
Richard who even went on holiday during this time and attended the GSPCA Masquerade Ball managed to stay on the soft drinks and raise a grand total of £1,120.
This January for the second time WEA are teaming-up with the GSPCA to provide a comprehensive course that not only provides essential information for pet care but tackles the wider issues of wild animal welfare in Guernsey.
The first course started in September and has the it's last session this evening and was a sell out so please book your place early.
Every week the classes have been interactive and full of experiences and discussions about animal care.
The course subjects include:
We were pleased to see a very fat and reasonably healthy Bella the Hedgehog recently here at the GSPCA.
Bella who was rescued as a Hoglet only days old in early Summer this year and required hand rearing was released back to the wild in August as a young adult Hedgehog.
The address where she was released have regularly seen her popping back for food and recently they noticed her covered in a large number of ticks so they managed to catch her and bring back to the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews for treatment.
We are at the Guernsey Round Table Christmas Fayre which will be held at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre from 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday 17th November 2013.
Entry to the Christmas Fayre is free.
There will be lots of activities and fun and games. Many Guernsey charities will be selling lots of goodies to raise funds.
