In April 2014 I will be embarking on an adventure (or torture as some say!) of a lifetime in which I hope to raise £2000 for each of my chosen charities.  So if you've seen me out running in even the most horrific of weather, this is why!!

The storm St Jude hits the Wildlife of Guernsey, but luckily Henry the Herons back in the wild

Submitted by GSPCA on 16:08, 29th Oct, 2013 | 0

With the wind and weather battering our shores the GSPCA have been kept busy with Wild Animals and Birds being rescued around Guernsey.

We have had 10 Hedgehogs since Saturday and 11 birds from Robins to Gulls all found sick, injured or trapped.

Sadly some of them we were unable to save due to their injuries but one of the lucky birds has been Henry the Heron.

Henry had been taking Shelter in an Islanders pond and garden but unfortunately got caught in netting.

He was rescued and brought into the Shelter very wet and disheveled on Sunday.

VW Caddy Vans for sale spares or repairs & a Large Racetrack Style Board Table & 12 Chairs

Submitted by GSPCA on 15:24, 29th Oct, 2013 | 0

Currently at the GSPCA we have two vans that due to gear box problems we are looking to sell for spares or repairs.

The vans which are in reasonable condition apart from their gear boxes have many useful parts on them or for a budding mechanic would make an excellent project.

In fact if someone wanted to repair one for the GSPCA free of charge this would be very much appreciated as that would enable us to have a spare vehicle on site.

Also we had a very large Board Table with 12 Chairs in excellent condition that we would sell to help raise funds for the Shelter.

Inky the lucky slick Syrian Hamster

Submitted by GSPCA on 18:18, 28th Oct, 2013 | 0

Inky is one very lucky stray Syrian Hamster.

Last Thursday a very surprised gentleman found a very oily Hamster in a catch pit when working on a car.

The Syrian Hamster that has been called Inky has had a good wash and is thankfully doing very well.

Inky is a stray Hamster so if you are missing one from the Bailiffs Cross area then the male, adult rodent could be yours.

Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'We often get oiled birds in at this time of year but it I can't remember getting an oiled Hamster in at the GSPCA before.'

Bad Weather puts Seal Pups at risk this time of year - Please Watch for them around our coastline

Submitted by GSPCA on 14:55, 23rd Oct, 2013 | 0

Every Autumn the shores of the Bailiwick see Grey Seal pups being born and the GSPCA are issuing advice today on what to do especially with the rough weather that we currently have.

Last year the GSPCA rescued two Grey Seal Pups which were called Jethou Bumblebee and Hanois.

Fortunately both were rescued in time and were able to be rehabilitated at the GSPCA in Guernsey.

Earlier this Spring they were released back in the wild on Jethou and we have had regular sightings of them which certainly warmed the hearts of the GSPCA team.
