In September 2009 the States of Guernsey agreed to change the way in which tax relief is given in respect of donations to Guernsey Registered Charities (GRC).
Previously income tax relief was only available to individuals who made payments under an irrevocable Deed of Covenant in favour of a Guernsey Registered Charity for a period in excess of 3 years; no relief was available to Guernsey resident individuals in respect of noncovenanted donations to Guernsey charities.
In summary, the new system works as follows:
Can you help this old hen?
Blackie as staff have named this old hen came in as an injured hen last month and has been at the Shelter for just over 4 weeks.
She came in with an injured leg and this old dear who is very sweet is now ready for a new home.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said 'Blackie is so sweet.'
'She actually talks to you and loves company especially whilst she eats her breakfast.'
With 73 hedgehogs at the GSPCA Animal Shelter and many more with volunteers and in foster homes the GSPCA are reminding everyone what to do if you find a hedgehog this winter.
Nearly everyday at least one hedgehog is brought into the GSPCA Animal Shelter either sick or injured.
Annabelle Janes Animal Care Assistant said 'We have so many hedgehogs at the moment it feels like we have herds of them.'
'We are seeing more nearly every day.'
The GSPCA are pleased to announce that the Link Centre staff and students will be continuing the Tuesday coffee mornings with bric-a-brac and pet supplies every Tuesday during term time at the GSPCA Animal Shelter between 10.30am and 12pm.
The students have been helping raise funds at the Animal Shelter and if you have time to spare on a Tuesday morning please pop in to say hello and support them.
The GSPCA are asking for your help.
Now with two grey seal pups in our care we need your support in feeding these beautiful mammals.
Jethou Bumblebee who was rescued in November 2012 from Jethou and Hanois who was found in Pleinmont on Saturday are doing well but with Jethou Bumblebee eating 20 mackerel or herring a day and Hanois being weaned on to fish these grey seal pups need your help.
Too much turkey and Christmas pudding? Why not make the 2013 Itex Rotary walk part of your New Year get fit regime!
The walk has now become one of Guernsey's key fund raising events for local charities and attracts several hundred participants every year determined to complete the nearly forty mile route.
2013 is the sixteenth year that the walk has been held and each year significant sums of money have been raised. In 2012 the walk raised nearly £52,000 and with your help we will hit a similar level this year.
Next month the GSPCA will be celebrating 140 years caring for animals in Guernsey and we are appealing for pictures or video clips of the work during our 84 years at our current address or even the early 1900's or late 1800's that anyone that may have.
We have a very good record of our history back until the late 1920's but very few pictures.
Our records include annual reports back to 1929 and even a visitor book from the 1970's with some lovely signatories.
Felix has now been at the GSPCA Animal Shelter since October 2011 and we want to start the New Year finding her that forever home.
She came in as a feral and unfortunately is still very nervous so would best suit a farm or stable yard home. At only 3 years of age she does get on well with other cats and we are asking for your help.
Even if you can't offer her a home if you could download a poster and display it or even spread the word of her needing a home from talking to friends to sharing on social networks such as facebook and twitter we would really appreciate it.
The GSPCA was founded in 1873 and to help celebrate 140 years caring for animals in Guernsey we are asking for your help.
There are many ways you, your school, group, work place, business can help celebrate.
The GSPCA week starts 11th February and celebrations will carry on until the 17th with our anniversary being Valentines Day the 14th February.
