The staff and volunteers at the GSPCA are deeply saddened by the passing of our Monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who was well known for her love of animals and particularly her beloved dogs, as well as her Patronage of the RSPCA.
In respect of this sad time the GSPCA have decided to postpone our Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday which was due to take place this weekend.
Once again there will be a fun dog show at the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday.
Judging starts at 1230pm with registration from 11am with the show ring located on the Crown Pier.
This is always a fabulous, fun, highlight of this special day and is open to any breed of dog.
The classes this year include -
Animal charities are already seeing consequences of rising cost of living.
The GSPCA helps thousands of animals every year and during the last two years we have seen a huge increase in pet ownership. Sadly in recent months we have seen a sharp increase in those wanting to part with their pets many siting that they are struggling to afford their pets.
Just after 12pm today the GSPCA arrived at Guernsey harbour to an injured common dolphin accompanied by a smaller likely younger animal.
John Knight GSPCA President and local vet with a wealth of experience with exotic animals and marine mammals joined GSPCA Head of Marine Mammals Geoff George but by that time the animals had made their way out to open water.
The poorly animal seemed to have an injury to its tail or back area and was swimming with what looked like an uncomfortable posture.
As part or our 11th Seafront Sunday we are inviting you to join in our Animal Olympic Obstacle course, with a chance to win GSPCA goodie bags full of prizes.
So how do you take part?
Meet our team at the Crown Pier arena at 1.30pm, pop a small donation in our charity bucket and choose which animal costume to wear during your attempt to BEE the best around our fun course.
From this weekend to next we are extremely busy at the GSPCA and we are calling any of our amazing volunteers with any time to help.
From helping with our busy ambulance service to walking dogs, our full cattery to our packed rabbit and small animal department, over 100 hedgehogs to over 30 reptiles, gardening to helping on reception.
We have a real range of animals in need of homes at the GSPCA and two of them are Wiz and Blue two adult ring-necked parakeets.
Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant said “From cockerels to a Caribbean hermit crab you’d be surprised the animals in need of homes at the GSPCA.”
“Two of our current parakeets in need of a home include Wiz and Blue which are two ring-necked parakeets.”
“Sadly this is the second time they’ve come into us through no fault of their own so we would love to find them that forever home.”
Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA are currently organising the Puffin Parade for 2023.
The 60 fiberglass moulds were recently completed and it is anticipated they will arrive in Guernsey towards the end of this month when they will be handed over to local artists, designers and community groups who will decorate them.
With nearly 50 already sponsored Autism Guernsey and the GSPCA are looking for the final sponsors and any artists wanting to decorate them.
