Once again the GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to NGIT

NGIT have been hugely supportive for many years to the GSPCA from providing equipment to advice, training to support and we cannot thank them enough for all they do and especially to Matthew Hale who regularly gives up his own time to update systems and fit new equipment.

The Association of Dogs and Cats Home (ADCH) has launched an Emergency Fund for animal rescues across the British Isles, to help them continue their vital work during the coronavirus outbreak.

This comes in response to a survey of rescue and rehoming organisations by ADCH, the sector umbrella body for companion animal rescue organisations, which revealed:

• 100% said their income had reduced;

• 61% said they have reduced staff numbers (the majority through furloughing);

• 55% said that fundraising income had already reduced by over 50%;

Furthest travelled stow away gets his right to live in a new home in Guernsey

Submitted by Steve on 17:51, 29th Apr, 2020 | 0

On the 15th February the GSPCA had a very unusual arrival.

We have seen a rise in reptiles in recent years as unwanted pets and even cruelty cases, but rarely get wild reptiles but back in February a stow away from much further East than Herm was brought into the GSPCA.

A couple who had recently been on holiday to India were shocked to find that a very unusual little creature had taken a trip in their bags and returned home with them.

No dogs at the GSPCA for the first time since WW2 but still 100’s of animals in our care

Submitted by Steve on 16:10, 24th Apr, 2020 | 0

The current lock down has caused huge challenges at the GSPCA and the team have taken a proactive approach to face the wide range of issues.

At the Animal Shelter we have 42 kennels and as of yesterday the only dog for rehoming inline with the strict social distancing guidelines was rehomed through our online adoption process.

This means we are in unprecedented times as we have no dogs at the GSPCA in kennels or foster homes.

We have been blessed with incredible weather during April and with the Coronavirus social distancing restrictions and many off work, Guernsey beaches have never seen so many dogs on them each day.

The amazing Mourant team sign up for the 2.6 Challenge to support the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 16:12, 23rd Apr, 2020 | 0

General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income.

That's why Team Mourant in Guernsey has decided to take part in the 2.6 Challenge, a massive fundraising campaign taking place on Sunday 26 April – when the 40th London Marathon would have taken place. They have very kindly chosen to raise money for the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

First babies of 2020 born at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 11:35, 23rd Apr, 2020 | 0

Today we have seen the first birth of 2020 at the GSPCA and we are delighted to say mum is a hedgehog.

As wonderful as this news is, it marks a time where we need to take extra care when out in the garden as others may have already been born and others will be due in the coming weeks.

Last year at the GSPCA we saw the highest number of hedgehogs come into our care in our history. An amazing 618 were rescued or born at the GSPCA and we have already seen 80 since the beginning of 2020, another record number.

Guernsey's BIGGEST Virtual Petshow to launch Friday 24th April in place of the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday

Submitted by Steve on 12:16, 22nd Apr, 2020 | 0

On Friday 24th we will be launching our Virtual Petshow so we can celebrate animals in Guernsey and our pets past and present. Sadly due to the Corona virus the GSPCA has had to postpone it's biggest Seafront event and fundraiser of the year until 2021. Our Seafront Sunday, due to take place on Sunday May 31st is the biggest celebration of animals in Guernsey and raises much needed funds for the Shelter. This money is vital to enable us to continue with all of our essential work with companion animals and wildlife across the Islands.
