Invite to all GSPCA volunteers, staff, placements and helpers.
As a way of a thank you to all of our amazing volunteers and staff we are holding a party on Friday the 30th August 2019 from 7pm at the Animal Shelter.
As its Summer please sport your best summer out fit and sun glasses for a fun evening as a way of thanks for all of the hard work carried out 24/7 from the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday to the around the clock animal care, the conservation work to those that help in so many ways.
With more than 7,000 votes already made in the wonderful Pride of Guernsey Awards, at the GSPCA we would like to share those of the GSPCA team and linked with the work we do that you can vote for in a number of categories.
From the whole team to some amazing individuals we are truly blessed at the GSPCA and here are those that you can vote for on your phone, lap top, PC, kindle, ipad and other devices by following the links below.
If you're thinking of getting a puppy, it's important to do your homework first. GSPCA Welfare & Behaviour Manager Lorna Prince shares this guidance which was put together in association with other animal welfare groups, Defra and the British Veterinary Association to help prospective owners choose the right puppy for them:
1. Carry out your research first. Different dogs have different needs and temperaments depending on, for example, their age, breed, health status, gender, and past experiences. A vet will also be able to give you information and advice on this.
At the GSPCA we have had a report of a pair of Black Swans missing from the Bordeaux area.
The owner has asked to put an appeal out for any information into the whereabouts of the male and female adult birds.
If you have any information please call the GSPCA on 01481 257261.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “This morning we received a report of two adult Black Swans, a male and female that have gone missing in the Bordeaux area in the last few days.”
The 3 day Sark Folk Festival was once again a great success and two very special young ladies did something very kind for the GSPCA and animals in our care.
9 year old Rasi Blondin and Pippa Smith busked over the 3 days with their violins and raised an amazing £145 to help animals in our care.
You may have seen these young ladies featured previously as they have used their fantastic talent at a number of events in the last year and from all at the GSPCA we cannot thank them enough.
This Sunday there is another private firework event that we are aware of taking place.
Th event takes place at GY3 5AT at 9.30pm.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “There is a third firework event taking place this week on Sunday at 930pm in the location of GY3 5AT.”
“The loud bangs and bright lights can often scare animals and we often see an increase in escaped animals during these periods.”
This week with the hot weather the GSPCA has had a number of reports from concerned members of the public that have seen dogs locked in cars during this warm weather upon and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets
The GSPCA team have already been out to a number of vehicles with reports of dogs locked inside with little or no ventilation.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
This week you can see behind the scenes at the GSPCA.
We ask for a minimum donation of £7 per person and £5 per child, or £20 for a family of four or £18 with an Islands Mum card. In 2019 we have some themed tours which are £20 per child or £17.50 with an Islands Mums card.
The tours take around 80 minutes and you get to see in many of the departments, interact with some of the friendly residents and a variety of species. The special tours can take a little longer.
This week there are two evenings of fireworks that we are aware of taking place.
The first is on Thursday at Saumarez Park as part of the North Show at 10pm.
On Friday there is a private display taking part at 10pm at the Peninsula Hotel.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With two firework displays this week we are reminding all pet and animal owners to do what they can to ensure they are safe, well and cared for.”
“The loud bangs and bright lights can often scare animals and we often see an increase in escaped animals during these periods.”
This Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August it is the North Show and the GSPCA will be there with a stall for the eighth year in a row.
Not only will we have a stall but you may see one or two GSPCA Mascots walking about.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "This summer is extraordinarily busy for us at the GSPCA between the 500+ animals that we have at the Shelter to all of the fantastic events of which many we attend."
"The North Show is always a wonderful event and at the GSPCA we are so grateful to them to be allowed to join them once again."
