Back on Wednesday the 17th April the GSPCA celebrated our 134th AGM.
The meeting was opened and all welcomed by GSPCA President and local Vet John Knight. John gave many of the highlights from 2016 and 2017 from the opening of the new animal welfare building to the many accolades that the GSPCA received. Many thanks were given and much praise was shared with so many that continue to help and support the incredible work that goes on 24/7.
The GSPCA are looking forward to the upcoming Eat, Drink and Be Local Seafront Sundays.
That’s right once again we are delighted to say that you will be able to see the GSPCA at each of the remaining Seafront Sundays this year.
We will have our fun stall with a full range of tombolas, games and GSPCA goods and we are very much looking forward being part of this fantastic event.
Michelle Champion GSPCA stall organisor said “We are really looking forward joining the Eat, Drink and Be Local Seafront Sundays.”
Charles arrived at the GSPCA at the end of April as his owner could no longer care for him.
Guinea pigs are thankfully found homes quite quickly from the GSPCA and last Monday Charles found a loving new home.
Lisa Le Poidevin new owner said last week “Charles has settled in quite well.”
“He seems a bit nervous when it's cuddle time but with some hay or a treat around he relaxes again “
“I'm still just swapping my piggy Toffee's hay with his and they both seem happy enough with the new smells.”
Over the last week we have had three incredible teams volunteer at the GSPCA from Investec.
In all 13 staff have spent a combined 46 hours helping around the GSPCA in St Andrews.
The first group of 6 helped last Wednesday, a further 2 yesterday and we have had another 5 volunteering this morning.
Each group arrived at 9am and were greeted by GSPCA Community and Training Officer Tim Pellett.
After a quick introduction they very put straight to work, and work they did.
Throughout April and May this year, the Co-op supported the GSPCA seal pups by donating 5 per cent of profits made from the sale of pet food.
The amazing donation has been used to help rehabilitate and care for the 6 seal pups.
The £1,500 donated by the Society has already helped three rescued seal pups return to Channel Island waters and we continue to help feed the others currently in our care.
Earlier this month the GSPCA had 26 staff from BachmannHR Group Ltd give up a day in the office to help out at the Shelter.
The fantastic, massive group helped all around the Shelter in many different ways from gardening to painting, with the animals to cleaning.
The group arrived at 9am and were welcomed by GSPCA Community and Training Officer Tim Pellett who after introductions set them to work.
Tim Pellett said “The staff from BachmannHR Group Ltd were fantastic.”
It is an extremely busy time at the GSPCA helping wild animals at the GSPCA and when they arrive sick, injured and in need the GSPCA works around the clock to get them back to the wild.
Some need only few days of care while others need many weeks.
When they are ready for release we then ideally like to release them near where they were found and others where we can find a suitable release site.
Last month Blanchelande College kindly allowed us to release 3 young ducks with them that had been in our care.
All around Guernsey each year businesses and offices have a special day when they bring their 4 legged friends to work.
This year Bring Your Dog To Work Day takes places on Friday 21st June.
Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.
When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work. Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?
