This morning the GSPCA were called out to attend what was reported to be a poorly seal pup at Perelle.
The team were dispatched to find an approximately 12 week old grey seal pup.
Only a little under weight the main concerns was it being lethargic and very chesty.
The pup was collected by Head of Marine Mammals GSPCA Geoff George and is now safely at the GSPCA.
Each year the GSPCA helps in excess of 2000 wild animals and birds.
Last year we saw a record breaking number of hedgehogs with over 700 through our doors and we currently have over 140 in our care.
All three seal pups continue to do well with Joey as you can see from the little white coat pup is eating extremely well on his own in our pools with Ellie and Titan who also progress well.
Sadly we continue to see very sick pigeons as the Pigeon Paramyxovirus spreads across the Island and we have had birds and reports from most Guernsey Parishes.
This week Ellie the seal pup enjoyed her first dip.
Ellie has now joined seal pups Joey and Titan in our rehab pools as she is strong and well enough to do so.
We are really pleased to report that Joey is eating well on his own and Titan and Ellie are learning what to do and putting on weight daily.
Can you donate or even sponsor them to help support our vital work and support us celebrating #GSPCAPurpleWeek

Yesterday an exhausted newborn grey pup was recued by BDMLR Jersey from Plemont beach.
They thank Ellie & family for calling it into the JSPCA out of hours driver who alerted them.
The pup was seen flailing around at sea with surfers in huge swell and came onto the beach exhausted.
The temporary white coat is not waterproof and pups this young should remain on land if possible until they moult this coat.
Sadly it is likely this pup was washed away from mum with the huge swell and if it had continued to float around at sea it would have eventually drowned.
Today we are pleased to update that Joey the Jersey grey seal pup is doing so well that he has gone for his first dip in one of our rehabilitation pools at the GSPCA.
Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals at the GSPCA said “After weeks in the intensive care room today Joey got his first swim and jumped straight in and has been in and out all day.”
“He is doing very well and being very naughty pulling whatever he can into the pool.”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Such great news that Joey has had his first dip in Guernsey water today at the GSPCA.”
