On Wednesday the 26th November we held our eleventh and final Volunteer Induction Evening at the GSPCA of 2014.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager and Emma Trousdale Animal Care Assistant were on hand to talk to the 17 new volunteers about the work of the Shelter and induct the keen new volunteers about the procedures and protocols at the Animal Shelter.
Some were interested in helping fund raising, others clean kennels, walk dogs, socialise cats and even those doing their Duke of Edinburgh.
With another wonderful year coming to a close there is one more chance to join the GSPCA as a volunteer.
On Wednesday 26th November at 630pm at the Shelter in St Andrews we will be holding the final volunteer induction evening of the year.
To help on site with the animals you have to be 14 years or over but all ages are welcome as we are always looking for fund raisers.
No need to reserve a place all we ask is that you are at the GSPCA a little before 6.30pm.
Each quarter staff and volunteers are nominated for certificates of appreciation for their hard work and commitment by one another, our supporters and general public.
For the Summer quarter here are the nominations and the reasons for those nominations –
Staff
Terry Buckley – ‘A star and a half in reception. So patient and kind with a good sense of humour. What more could you ask?’
Sue Le Goff – ‘Hard working and makes a good cuppa.’
Sarah Ozanne – ‘She is always happy to help anyone and willing to adapt her work schedule to cover other departments.’
This Sunday at the GSPCA we are taking our first steps into the world of Voluntourism.
After listening to a conversation on the JKT BBC Guernsey show earlier this year the GSPCA contacted Intercruises who were delighted to let us get involved.
The first group of 10 visiting volunteers from the Crystal Serenity arrive on Sunday and will help the GSPCA team around the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
On Wednesday we held another volunteer induction afternoon and were pleased to welcome a further 8 volunteers to the GSPCA team.
James, Liz, Martin, Jo, Abbie, Zara, Kira and Sarah spent the afternoon finding out about the work of the GSPCA, how to work safely at the GSPCA, all about the fund raising events and other opportunities at the Animal Shelter.
Each of those attending had an area they would like to focus such as ferrets to cats, fund raising to dogs and we would like to thank them for attending and getting involved.
Tomorrow at 2pm at the GSPCA we have a Volunteer Induction Afternoon.
We have arranged additional inductions to help those off for the summer and looking to help animals in Guernsey get involved at the GSPCA.
To volunteer on site with the animals you must be over 14 years of age, but we are always looking for volunteers to help with fund raising of all ages.
You are welcome to attend the induction if you are under 14 with permission of your parent or guardian.
At the GSPCA we hold Volunteer Induction Evenings every 6 to 8 weeks but with the Summer upon us and many willing volunteers over 14 wanting to help at the Shelter and those under 14 able to help at the many fund raisers we are at we held an afternoon induction session yesterday where we greeted 11 new volunteers to the team.
We really couldn't achieve all of the fantastic work we carry out at the GSPCA without the wonderful volunteer team we have at the GSPCA and we really do appreciate each and every one.
With a peak in interest of students breaking up for the summer and asking to volunteer at the GSPCA we are holding an induction afternoon on Tuesday 22nd July at 2pm at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
To volunteer at the GSPCA you have to be at least 14 years of age. If you are under this age you can come along to learn about the work we do and also find out how you can raise funds and help at our many events.
Today the GSPCA have been at the OSA recruitment Pop Up Shop with a selection of other charities to speak to the community about volunteering.
With the sun shining, the GSPCA would like to thank OSA Recruitment, Volunteer.gg, Association of Guernsey Charities and the Community Foundation for the chance to join some great causes in St Peter Port to spread the word of helping animals in Guernsey through Volunteers Week.
Today the OSA Pop Up Shop in Smith Street, St Peter Port will be manned by a variety of charities and one of the themes is animals as part of volunteers week.
We will have information on hand and hopefully representatives between 10am and 2pm and also 5pm and 7pm.
If you are interested in helping animals in Guernsey then there are many roles and ways you can get involved with the GSPCA, so please pop down or you can call the Shelter on 01481 257261 for details.
