Today is #InternationalSealDay and with our 3 seal pups at the GSPCA we really need your support.
Eating at least 20-30 fish each per day we are going through nearly 100 fish a day and we need your support.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Today is #InternationalSealDay and at the GSPCA we currently have 3 currently in our care.”
Last night the GSPCA team were devastated as Ellie the grey seal pup passed away.
Found emaciated, with a number of ailments and injuries Ellie had been receiving treatment and around the clock care for the last 11 weeks but was struggling eating.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are extremely saddened to have to let everyone know that Ellie the grey seal pup passed away last night.”
“Unlike the other seal pups she has really struggled eating and putting her weight despite around the clock care from the GSPCA team.”

LADIES' CHARITY LUNCHEON in aid of GSPCA and Clic Sargent Saturday 17th April
ARE YOU READY FOR A FUN AFTERNOON AND TO RAISE FUNDS FOR THESE TWO WORTHY CHARITIES?
Elaine Lockett and Wendy Woodcock are delighted to announce a fundraising event that (Covid permitting) will take place on Saturday 17th April in the Harry Bound Room at Les Cotils from 12pm until 3pm.
The event is in aid of the GSPCA and Clic Sargent and is set to be a fantastic afternoon raising much needed funds during these difficult days.
This morning the GSPCA were called out to attend what was reported to be a poorly seal pup at Perelle.
The team were dispatched to find an approximately 12 week old grey seal pup.
Only a little under weight the main concerns was it being lethargic and very chesty.
The pup was collected by Head of Marine Mammals GSPCA Geoff George and is now safely at the GSPCA.
Lockdown 2 has seen so many caring islanders supporting so many good causes and helping one another.
One of these wonderful individuals is Liz Quentin. Liz has made and sold an incredible 197 face masks in aid of the GSPCA to help raise funds towards our 24/7 work and care of the many animals at the GSPCA.
You might have seen Liz’s recent facebook thanks where she said “That’s 197 masks made and sold in the last 3 weeks, £659.80 raised less the costs of £77.00 so £582.80 donated to the GSPCA, Guernsey SPCA .”
“Thank you all for your purchases and donations.”
As Guernsey has gone through 7 weeks of our second lockdown many incoming donations have been affected, not just financially.
At the GSPCA we are currently appealing for long shredded paper for the hedgehog bedding and with over 140 in our care we have a lot to look after.
Normally with offices working and many in the work place we would have a great supply but with most people working from home we have not had our normal supplies and we are in need of long (not cross) shredded paper.
Just before Christmas we rehomed a lovely tortie female cat called Mittens who is now called Coco and is very much enjoying her new home.
Coco recently sent this lovely message -
‘Hello all of you at the GSPCA
I am sending this message to you all to let you know how I am getting on in my new home. I was adopted just two weeks ago.
The GSPCA couldn’t achieve so much without our trained staff and we are excited to announce two full time posts have become available as sadly two of the team in recent months returned to their homeland.
We also have casual posts especially for those available during weekends and bank holidays.
The full time posts include various duties from animal care to reception and the successful applicants will also be required to help cover night shifts at the GSPCA which tend to be over the weekend.
