Every year we hear of firework related incidents involving animals and children. While fireworks may be exciting and pretty to look at and its fun to celebrate many celebrations with a bang, we must put our safety, the safety of our pets and the local wildlife first.
Tomorrow as part of Liberation Day at 2130hrs (930pm) at Castle Breakwater in St Peter Port and at 9pm at Guernsey rangers FC in St Andrews there are firework displays planned so please ensure your animals are safe and prepare for the unusual sounds and sights they might be subjected too.
Many may think the fireworks are over but there are additional displays planned for tonight.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “Last night we had a number of stray dogs and injured wild animals we helped.”
“We have also had a number of calls and messages from those concerned about their animals distressed from the loud bangs, flashes and vibrations from the fireworks and with more planned this evening the GSPCA wanted to pre-warn all pet owners ahead of these displays.”
We are fast approaching the firework season where the GSPCA helps more animals scared and injured by bonfires and loud noises than any other time of year.

Every year hedgehogs and other animals that take refuge in bonfires before they are lit and are put at risk.
Please check you bonfires thoroughly and if you are having a display this evening please let your neighbors know so they can ensure their pets are safe and sound.
