The 21st Torteval Scarecrow Festival will be held this weekend on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st July 2024.
At the Torteval Parish Church you can walk the Scarecrow Trail (1½ hours approx) through some of Torteval’s delightful lanes.
Refreshments available throughout both days with licensed bar, entertainment and fete with various stalls.
This is the ninth year the GSPCA are taking part in this wonderful community event and we are hugely grateful to those at the home for the kind use of their front garden.
The Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure recently published proposals to provide better protections for wild and domesticated animals by strengthening Guernsey’s animal welfare legislation.
The proposed changes will modernise Guernsey’s legislation and fulfil the extant States’ Resolutions that were not covered immediately by the Animal Welfare (Guernsey) Ordinance in 2012.
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, President of the Committee, said:
Today the GSPCA has had a report of domestic ducks in the Rue des Goddards area in Castel
If you have any information please call 01481 257261
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “At the GSPCA we have had reports of 3 domestic ducks in the Rue des Goddards area of Castel.”
“They appear to some sort of domestic duck such as runner ducks so likely live in the area.”
“We are currently trying to find the owner of these birds.”
At the GSPCA we are extremely busy with the daily arrival of baby birds needing hand rearing that have been found or rescued, but for us we currently have more gull chicks at the same time than any of the team can recall.
Currently at the GSPCA we have 5 very young gull chicks that are being hand reared which have been displaced from their parents, but we would always recommend that chicks are left where possibly with their parents and finding a safe place near the nest if they are fledging.
This Sunday 14th July 2024 pop into St Peter Port to join the Motor Festival Seafront Sunday.
The GSPCA have been welcomed to this wonderful event and will have a stall along the seafront with our many games raising funds for the hundreds of animals in our care.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager will be there and is looking for volunteers and if you can help please email her - [email protected]
At the GSPCA we never know what will arrive through the doors.
One recent arrival was Woodrow a woodpecker found very poorly below a window in St Peter Port
Jack Le Moigne GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “On the 27th June we had a more unusual arrival at the GSPCA.”
“A member of public found a woodpecker in a gutter.”
“Apparently it flew into finder's window.”
Today we are excited to be launching our GSPCA Virtual Pet show in conjunction with Pukka Tukka for Pets limited.
As well as being at EDABL Seafront Sunday on Sunday 16th June the GSPCA attended the Classic Vehicle Show at Saumarez Park and we wanted to say a huge thanks to all involved and supported.
Tim Pellet GSPCA Training and Community Officer said “On the 16th June once again we were delighted to take our GSPCA stall to the Classic Vehicle Show at Saumarez Park and we had such a wonderful day.”
“We raised around £200 and spoke to many supporters and those wanting to learn about what we do.”
The GSPCA couldn’t do so much without our incredible team.
There are many ways to help the animals in our care and we are currently looking for a number of volunteers to help in a range of roles.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “At the GSPCA we have an amazing team and currently we are looking for those that want to help us do all that we do in a variety of roles.”
“Last month was Volunteers Week and we couldn’t do so much without so many incredible volunteers.”
