A huge thank you to all that support the 2023 Purple Poppy Appeal

Once again a huge thank you from all at the GSPCA to Linda and all involved with the Purple Poppy Campaign Guernsey.

The 2023 appeal result in hundreds of pounds being raised for animal charities.

Organised by Linda Laine and kindly made by Sally Johnson, Sue Queripel, Christa Tee, Sue Haggarty and Odile Davy who all adore animals and are ask the community each November to ‘Please wear your purple poppy alongside your red poppy’.

GSPCA Biggest Build Appeal

The GSPCA are in the process finally to go to tender for the much needed facilities at the GSPCA.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The GSPCA is about to go to tender for the BIGGEST Build in our 151 year history.”

“We fitted a new Small Animal Unit last year, which we have some final touches being completed currently.”

“This had to be done ahead of the three new builds we wish to do which will be a Wildlife Hospital, new Welfare and Rehoming Kennels and Ferret Unit.”

Its not just about saving animals lives as GSPCA team are trained in first aid by the HSC training team

Every day the GSPCA help save animals lives, but recently the some of the GSPCA team undertook human live saving training.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “With over 3000 sick and injured wild animals through the doors every year and 1000 domestic the GSPCA are use to seeing poorly animals, but with a team of 50 staff, over 800 volunteers and tens of thousands of visitors every year we have to ensure we are prepared for any emergency, animal or human.”

Happily Ever After – Herbie in his new home

We are delighted to give an update of Herbie the cat who was Fernando adopted last October is doing well in his new home.

Ali Le Huray Animal Care Supervisor said “We always love to hear how the animals are doing after they have been adopted from the GSPCA.”

“It is wonderful to hear how well Herbie is doing in his new home and to see so many lovely pictures.”

Thursday 22nd February is National Wildlife Day & have you bought a brick for our much needed Wildlife Hospital

Not only have we been celebrating our 151st year, the 22nd February is National Wildlife Day.

National Wildlife Day is a very new holiday, having been founded in 2005 by Colleen Paige. Ms. Paige is considered one of America's leading Pet & Family Lifestyle Experts and wanted to bring awareness to the number of endangered animals that need to be preserved and rescued and also to acknowledge zoos and outstanding animal sanctuaries for everything they do to help animals.

This weekend the GSPCA held a very special event to mark their milestone of 10 going into 151 years.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager and Ball organisor said “On Saturday 10th February 2024 over 200 islanders and visitors descended on St Pierre park Hotel for an incredible night of celebrations to mark the 150th year of the GSPCA going into the 151st year.”

#GSPCAPurpleWeek – Incredible 9th seal pup Valentine arrives on the GSPCA founding day marking 151 years helping animals & meaning the most seals we have had at one time

Today on Valentines Day we have been celebrating our founding day moving from our 150th into our151st year and this afternoon the 5th Guernsey poorly grey seal pup of this season was rescued from Fort Le Marchant.

Aptly named Valentine he is the 9th seal pup to come into our care this season making it the most ever seal pups we have ever had at one time.
