Over the weekend we had two oiled guillemots one of which was not the normal black crude oil but rather palm oil which is more often seen in clumps and a danger to dogs eating it when out on a walk.
The continued stormy weather has caused many sick and injured seabirds and at the GSPCA we have helped everything from cormorants to gannets and had many reports of those that have been sadly washed up deceased for various reasons.

Earlier this month we held our annual #GSPCAPurpleWeek which this year celebrated 147 years of the GSPCA helping animals in Guernsey.
During our anniversary event we held our second Volunteer Induction of 2020 and greeted 18 new faces keen to help us at the GSPCA.
Tim Pellett GSPCA Training and Community Officer was on hand to greet and meet the new helpers wanting to help in a variety of ways and made them comfortable in one of our training rooms.
Today is Digital Learning Day and what better day to highlight some amazing support our team received recently from local firm NGIT
The GSPCA are extremely grateful to Doug Belford from NGIT who last week over two mornings helped provide and run Cyber Security training for the staff and volunteers at the GSPCA.
Today the GSPCA celebrates 147 years since the day we were founded.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manage said “On the 14th February 1873 a group of concerned islanders identified there was a need to prevent animal cruelty and promote kindness and this gave birth to the GSPCA.”
147 years ago yesterday there was no such thing as the GSPCA to help animals in Guernsey as today on Valentine's Day we celebrate our anniversary.
Yesterday around 430pm the GSPCA were called out to the Shingle Bank on the West Coast of Guernsey to what they found was a very poorly, thin , dehydrated and chesty grey seal pup.
There have been many activities going on this week to celebrate and support the #GSPCAPurpleWeek and today a really fun event took part as the Donkey Linedance group with Roslyn Harris dressed with a purple theme while they line danced and made donation’s to help the many animals in our care and work of the GSPCA.
An amazing £135.17p was raised and from all at the GSPCA and the animals a huge thank you.
Today is the first day of #GSPCAPurpleWeek

At the GSPCA we help 100’s of dogs and their owners every year from strays to microchipping, welfare calls to those locked in hot cars. We are asked to help rehome 40 to 50 dogs each year which come in for a variety of reasons, many through no fault but due to changes in circumstances.
Last year we rehomed the now named Rummie to a lovely new family. The new owners of Rummie a Jack Russell Terrier had adopted another JRT called Bundi and we have recently received this update from the lovely new owners –
