Guernsey Electricity calendar to raise money for GSPCA

Guernsey Electricity’s 2018 calendar, which features photos taken by employees, will raise money for the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

Staff were invited to submit their photos of Guernsey’s iconic landscapes and scenes to be included in the calendar. The winning photo on the front over, ‘Summer Flowers’, was taken by Brian Thorburnn, who chose the animal charity as the beneficiary.

Petplan & ADCH Animal Charity Awards 2018 - Nominations Now Open - Could you nominate someone in Guernsey?

Petplan and the Association of Dogs and Cats Homes (ADCH) Charity Awards celebrate outstanding animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK who go that extra mile to help rescue and rehome animals in need.

Petplan has worked closely with animal rehoming centres for over 30 years and sees first-hand the fantastic work that goes on to help improve the welfare of animals. These awards provide an opportunity to recognise the dedication and commitment of charities and give pet owners a chance to say 'thank you'.

Get Your Ice Skate-a-thon on for the animals at the GSPCA Tuesday 5 Dec - Book tickets online or at Le Friquet Garden Centre

The Guernsey Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals (G.S.P.C.A) is the chosen charity of Le Friquet Garden Centre for 2017 and has teamed up with Ice Skate Guernsey to create a special fund raising “skate-a-thon” on Tuesday 5th December 2017.

All Ice Skate Guernsey tickets purchased for the 5pm-5.45pm session on Tuesday 5 th December 2017 will be donated to the G.S.P.C.A. Tickets cost £9.00 for adults and £7.00 for children and can be purchased either online at www.iceskateguernsey.com or direct from the Information Desk at Le Friquet Garden Centre.

Road Disruption - Access to the GSPCA

Over the next 4 weeks there is there is road resurfacing taking place on Route de la Croix au Bailiff, so entry by vehicle to the GSPCA is via the Rohais de Haut or Foulon direction.

We are sorry for any disruption and we are working with the States to minimise the inconvenience.

When visiting the GSPCA over the next month please do plan that it may take additional time due to the increased traffic in the lanes and please do take care.

Ceva Animal Welfare Awards open for nominations – could you nominate a Guernsey charity or person

The CEVA dedicated Welfare Awards website is now open for nominations - www.cevawelfareawards.com

Please note nominations can only be submitted electronically via the website this year. Nominations will be accepted until early January.

In 2015 GSPCA President and local vet John Knight won the Vet of the Year category and our very own Yvonne Chauvel the GSPCA Senior Animal Care Assistant were finalists for the Charity Professional of the Year Award.

Fantastic Dog Emergency First Aid Training last night and dates set for next year

Last night 16 dog owners came along to the GSPCA to learn about first aid for dogs and how to help save their pets life.

With a full room on a dark wet windy night the group were trained in the emergency procedures to help save a dogs life from learning to identify the signs of life to CPR.

Taking the course was GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 20 years working in the field of animal rescue and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.

After nearly a year of veterinary care Catrina who was hit by a car is in need of a home at the GSPCA

Around Christmas time two of our wardens where called to a cat that had been hit by a car and collapsed but still alive

The little cat was rushed to Isabelle vets where once she had been examined it was found that she had totally de gloved her tail, had a serious fractured pelvis, some internal bleeding and was a very poorly cat indeed.

However this little girl who has been named Catrina was prepared to fight and had her tail amputated that night along with other veterinary care.

Channel Island Christmas Lottery Tickets on sale at the GSPCA - Jackpot now at £675,000

Again the GSPCA have on sale Channel Island Christmas Lottery tickets at our reception area open 7 days a week at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

The jackpot for this year’s Channel Islands Christmas Lottery is now an amazing £675,000.

The guaranteed first prize continues to rise as tickets are purchased ahead of the draw on the 19th December 2017.

The second prize is set at £100,000 and the third prize will be £25,000, as well as 10 guaranteed winners of £1,000.

Credit Suisse staff help out at the GSPCA

On the 29th September Svetlana Head, Tina Hiddelston, Nic Clevel and Jingjing Qi from Credit Suisse gave up a day in the office to help out at the GSPCA.

We were pleased to welcome back Credit Suisse staff for the fourth year and third time in 2017 and they are always a great help and support to the team at the Shelter.

The Travel Corporation help out at the GSPCA

On the 21st and 27th September the wonderful staff from The Travel Corporation joined the team at the GSPCA for the 4th and 5th time this year.

This is the fourth year in a row team members from The Travel Corporation have helped at the GSPCA.
