Last month Tomas and his friends celebrated his 10th birthday at the GSPCA with a special guided tour and a party in our events room.
Kelly Carre (Mum) said “I just wanted to say thank you so much for letting Tomas celebrate his birthday last month with his party at the GSPCA.”
“Beckie was amazing, very informative during the tour and Tomas and his friends really enjoyed themselves.”
“Tomas loved seeing all the animals, particularly the guinea pigs and hedgehogs and he loved going into the aviary too.”
On Sunday the GSPCA attended the Guernsey Health Show which was completely free to attend .
Our stall was in the children’s zone and was a fantastic family event.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “A huge thank you to all involved and supported the Guernsey Health Show on Sunday.”
“Not only did we raise £119 we also chatted to many that are looking to help out and volunteer at the GSPCA.”

Do remember Catrina the cat who nearly died last year?
She was found having been hit by a car on a cold, dark, wet evening with multiple injuries, very thin and weak.
It took many months for Catrina to get back to health which included operations, medication and a lot of TLC.
Just before Christmas Catrina was given the okay to be rehomed by the vet and it didn’t take long to find her a wonderful new family.
We’ve just heard from Catrina’s new mum and wanted to share the great news.
Over Christmas the Best Western Hotel de Havelet kindly undertook some fund raising which included a bingo event in aid of the GSPCA.
The now annual event is hugely appreciated by all at the GSPCA and we are so thankful for the amazing £216 raised by the Best Western Hotels.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are so grateful to the Best Western Hotel de Havelet for their amazing donation of £216 from their Christmas bingo event and also some from Les Roquettes Hotel.”
Last Wednesday the GSPCA greeted 22 new volunteers to the team.
The induction took place at the GSPCA in St Andrews at 6.30pm and the room was overflowing with those wanting to help out in many ways.
The induction took place with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who greeted the new volunteers and then played a video about who we are, what we do, the ways volunteers can help and an induction of how to help safely.
Last month the GSPCA ran the 14th and final volunteer induction of 2017 and in total inducted and trained over 300 new volunteers and helpers through the year from Corporate Social Responsibility days to individuals that help each week.
The GSPCA have planned out the dates for 2018 and the first takes place at 6.30pm on Wednesday 10th January 2018 at the GSPCA in St Andrews.
What a 2017 at the GSPCA with 2914 rescue and unwanted animals through the doors and many more helped such as farm animals and horses out on the roads, cruelty investigations undertaken, helping lost and found animals, education and community work, assisted with many types of emergencies and supporting those during bereavement of their pets.
During 2017 nearly half the animals through the doors at the Shelter in St Andrews were birds which totalled 1446 which included domestic, farm and wild birds.
Here are the top 6 groups of animals accepted in during 2017 –
With the extreme weather the GSPCA are seeing a very rough start for the wildlife of Guernsey.
Last night Rupert an oiled guillemot was rescued at Fort Grey and the team are braced for more as the gale force weather continues.
Often during the winter months with the high winds and stormy weather makes it difficult for wild animals and birds to feed and rest.
Also with the high winds we have to ensure our pets and animals kept outside are safe and secure.
The GSPCA are currently looking to tile 31 kennels at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
We have a tile supplier of appropriate kennel tiles and looking for local companies/individuals to help refloor 5 sections of our kennels (and possibly corridor areas)
Also, we are asking for tenders to paint the first floor of our main Kennel Building.
For more information and to view the kennel areas please email [email protected] or call 257261.
We are asking for tenders to be in by the 31st December 2017
