On Thursday 7th September we held our 11th volunteer induction at the GSPCA and met 3 new helpers keen to learn how they can get involved with us here at the Animal Shelter adding to the 131 inducted this year taking this years inducted volunteers to a total of 134 not including others that have helped from businesses, groups and other organisations.
For the sixth year in a row the GSPCA attended the West Show last month.
Once again our stall was full of great games & GSPCA goods.
Every year we have a great time enjoying a wonderful local event whilst raising funds on our stall to help the many animals in our care.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The West Show is always an amazing summer event and we attended for the 6th year in a row with our GSPCA stall.”
Once again the GSPCA joined the Guernsey Round Table Harbour Carnival 2017 which was held on Friday 11th August.
Each year Guernsey Round Table, with the support of RBC Wealth Management, organise the Guernsey Harbour Carnival and this year it was in aid of The Hub.
Once again the GSPCA will be joining with this wonderful event and we are very grateful to the Guernsey Round Table for inviting to have a stall to raise funds for the animals in our care.
Last month the GSPCA joined in with the fun at the South Show and enjoyed two days of festivities and raising funds for the many animals at the GSPCA, promoting the work of the Shelter and also helped judge their fun dog show.
This year the fun dog show had some fantastic prizes from Creature Comforts, South Show committee made rosettes and the Best in Show was a new cup sponsored by Forest Stores.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We are hugely grateful to the South Show for such a lovely event and it was fantastic to help judge their fabulous fun dog show.”
Last month the GSPCA joined the Greenacres Summer Fete at St Martins Community Centre field.
Not only did we have our GSPCA stall but we also ran a fun dog show in aid of Greenacres Care Home and the animals at the GSPCA.
There were lots of fun classes and it was lovely to see Honey, Petal, Yoshi, Lottie, Charlie, Shadow, Pixie, Molly and the overall show winner Rufus.
Last month the GSPCA joined in with the fantastic annual Torteval Scarecrow Festival.
This was the third year we have been allowed to join this wonderful family Guernsey event which is held in high esteem by so many.
In previous years the GSPCA focused their scarecrow display on Jessie the beagle, Olivia the turtle, the 25 Slovakian puppies, seal pups and other popular stories that have come from the Animal Shelter.
On the 22nd July on a wet and windy day Le Friquet Garden Centre organised a Family Fun Day in aid of the GSPCA.
With the inclement weather the event moved inside thanks to the space available at Le Friquet Garden Centre so with entertainment, face painting, BBQ, bouncy castles, planting and the GSPCA stall there was plenty to do and see.
The day was well attended and over £425 was raised for the many animals at the GSPCA.
On Sunday 1st October we are holding a Fun Family Day, Car Boot Sale and Fun Dog Show at the Mallard Cinema and through the day the GSPCA takes over all 4 screens to show a selection of films which we can now announce.
With plenty of parking and two huge fields there is plenty of room for all and with so much to see and do indoor and out we are looking forward to an exciting day.
Please contact GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne if you would like to book a pitch or if you can help volunteer on the day [email protected]
On Wednesday 6th September Rufus a 7 year old cockapoo became lost near Aladdin's Cave.
Rufus is a white and cream cockapoo and has been seen a number of times between St Andrews and St Martins over the last few days, especially near Havilland Hall.
The owners have been out all hours in search of their lost dog and have asked us to share their details in case you see him.
Rufus has appeared very shy so unlikely to approach strangers or people he doesn't know and if you see him please contact the numbers below as soon as possible.
