Each year at the GSPCA we hold Dog and Cat First Aid Courses.
For over a decade we have been running dog and cat first aid courses which help teach owners and pet lovers how to save the life of their pet or animal.
Last Tuesday 6 dog owners and 1 member of the GSPCA Work 2 Benefit placement attended the first GSPCA Dog First Aid Course of 2024. Last night we held our first Cat First Aid course of 2024 and greeted 7 attendees made of GSPCA team members, Work 2 Benefit placements and cat owners.
The GSPCA are appealing for information and witnesses after our warden was called out to retrieve the dead bodies of a number of guinea pigs that had been thrown into the bushes at the halfway bus stop. The scene very upsetting for the those who attended and we are just thankful that they weren't seen by children who would have found the sight extremely traumatic.
On the 19th May 2024 10am to 4pm the GSPCA will once again be organising a day to celebrate the animals in Guernsey and all the wonderful work that is done to care for them.
This year we are excited to be sharing our celebrations with the Guernsey Boat Show, who will be on the Crown pier.
We are extremely grateful to all those that made last 12 years such great days and we are hoping this years will be bigger and better.
There will be stalls and fun for all the family; humans and canines.
Every year the GSPCA helps over 1000 lost, stray and missing animals every year.
Thankfully many are reunited very quickly but for those that aren’t it can be a stressful and upsetting time for the owners missing their pet.
The GSPCA have a page full of lost and found advice which can be found by going to https://www.gspca.org.gg/services/lost-found-advice
To help speed up the process of helping reunite missing pets with their owners the GSPCA have launched a lost or missing pet online form.
The GSPCA are very excited to announce that once again the Pets Foundation launched the Easter Pets Foundation Appeal 2024 which supports our work as well as many other animal charities across the UK.
The GSPCA has had to grow in recent years to meet the demands on our services and ensure the care and rescue of animals in need.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been celebrating our 151 year history and we are excited to announce we have a number of vacancies become available at the GSPCA.”
“We are looking for animal care and reception team members, and always keen to hear from those looking to volunteer.”
“From possible full time to part time hours including evening hours we have a range of options available at the GSPCA.”

The organisers of this year’s Skipton Swimarathon, which is taking place between 4-8 October, have named the 2024 beneficiary as the GSPCA.
Celebrating its 150 years of service to the island, the animal shelter is renowned for the consistent good works it does to help all animals, whether rescued seals in need of recuperation, or missing cats. The shelter, as it is also known, also offers training programmes for animal owners and is entirely reliant on public donations in order to survive.
Last month GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne was invited to DHS for a wonderful surprise.
Steve arrived on a damp morning during the GSPCA Purple Week 150 year celebrations to meet Mark Munson the General Manager and some the DHS team.
Steve said “Although a very wet morning it was wonderful to meet the team at DHS during our 150 year and GSPCA Purple Week celebrations last month.”
“They raised an incredible £420 between cake sales and mufti days and as they are all animal lovers really wanted to support our 24/7 work at the GSPCA helping animals in Guernsey.”
