Sadly one of the full time members of staff is unable to work the hours at the Animal Shelter and we are having to soon wish her luck in her new career.

Ashleigh Le Pelley joined the team earlier this year and although she enjoys her role very much, due to other commitments she is moving into another role but will carry on volunteering at the GSPCA.

This has made an opening for an exciting and diverse position at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

Arriving just after 6pm the large group in double figures with their leaders met volunteers from the RSPB Guernsey and St Andrews Floral Group to help the conservation work at the GSPCA.

Foraging around the GSPCA grounds the Beavers helped make a bug hotel at the Shelter as part of the work to help the wildlife in and around the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

Last year the GSPCA had it’s BIGGEST every cruelty and first ever puppy trafficking case in Guernsey.

Many will remember the 25 Slovakian puppies seized by the States Vet and Customs which were detained at the GSPCA and working together with the Guernsey Police resulted in a first for Guernsey in a multiple prosecution under the new Guernsey Animal Welfare Ordinance 2012 as well as other convictions.

Archimedes a baby Barn Owl rescued close to death last week and now eating on his own at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 23:46, 8th Jun, 2016 | 0

Last week one of the GSPCA Volunteer Night Wardens were called out to rescue a very sick, weak and starving baby barn owl in St Peter Port.

The young bird was severely thin and very close to loosing his life and was found near to Candie Gardens very early on Thursday morning.

Thankfully with the skills of the team at the GSPCA and an intensive care unit the young bird has survived his first week and today started to eat on his own.

After a period inside we plan to transfer him to an outside aviary where he will learn to fly and forage for food.

Over the last year the St Andrews Floral Group have raised over £10,000 and brought together in excess of 100 volunteers to help with the grounds and conservation work at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.

The GSPCA are extremely grateful to St Andrews Floral Group and all that have helped and we continue to look at ways we can work together and improve the grounds for wildlife, flora and fauna.

On Fish Friday last week the wonderful and generous Waitrose Rohais staff and store helped once again towards Olivia the loggerhead turtle.

Since she started eating on her own just over 2 weeks ago she is now keen to eat all she can.

Every Friday if you have a My Waitrose card the fresh fish counters in Waitrose offer a 20% discount. On Fish Friday last week Waitrose Rohais not only donated a further 4kg of squid for Olivia the amazing staff also chipped in for a further 4kgs to help feed the loggerhead turtle at the GSPCA.

Guided Tours sell out at the GSPCA - more coming soon and special tours available

Submitted by Steve on 23:28, 6th Jun, 2016 | 0

Last week during the half term we held tours around the GSPCA to see the hundreds of animals in our care.

Every Spring we help hundreds of baby birds, hedgehogs and many more wild animals and birds.

The guided tours took groups of over 20 each day behind the scenes and due to the numbers of animals many of the tours took over 2 hours.

We asked for a minimum donation of £5 per person and £3 per child, or £15 for a family of four and many gave additional donations and bought items in the shop and charity shop on site.
