Yesterday the GSPCA had a lovely morning despite a wet start at the La Société Conservation Herd Car Boot Sale at Saumarez Park.
With a grey and damp start over 20 cars along with stalls from La Société Conservation Herd and food vendor Furze Oven.
The GSPCA took a stall which helped raise £100 for the animals in our care and La Société Conservation Herd appeared to have a great morning raising funds for the Guernsey cows they look after with their conservation work of which two of the young steers were present for visitors to meet.
On Saturday afternoon the GSPCA were called out to attend a very serious incident of an injured herring gull at Vazon.
The bird was being cared for by two teenagers who had spotted at a distance two similar aged male teenagers around 14 years throwing stones at the gull.
GSPCA Volunteer Ambulance Warden Michelle Champion attended to rescue the badly injured bird and the team were horrified to find the extent of the injury sustained to the animal.
Today Lily-Ella O’Brien was welcomed at the GSPCA for a behind the scenes tour as a way of thanks for the amazing donation she has given.
At her recent 7th birthday party instead of presents Lilly-Ella asked her friends to make donations instead of presents to help the animals at the GSPCA.
An amazing £200 was raised which Lily-Ella brought up this afternoon and after presenting it to the GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne he then gave her and her grand-mother a guided tour of the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
On Monday the GSPCA joined the fun and festivities of Lé Viaër Marchi in Saumarez Park.
Despite what had been a wet and grey day as the event drew closer the clouds thinned and rain stopped.
The GSPCA for a second year in a row joined the fabulous event and once again had a wonderful time.
GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne and volunteer Molly Phillips along with one of her friends ran what was once again a very popular stall raising funds for the many animals in our care at the GSPCA.
Finally the documents are in place to fly Olivia south and we are appealing for donations or for a plane to help transport her to the Canaries in the next few weeks.
Olivia who nearly died in March is the first ever loggerhead sea turtle to visit Guernsey and they are so rare there are only 40,000 breeding females in the wild.
After months of rehabilitation she is now strong enough to endure the journey back to warmer waters and a rescue in Gran Canaria and we are appealing for donations or a plane to help fly her to where she belongs.
The Insurance Corporation are an amazing, caring and wonderful company that puts so much into the community.
Last month they gave out thousands of pounds to conservation projects across the Channel Islands and at the GSPCA were lucky enough to receive The Peter Walpole ‘People’s Choice’ Conservation Award Guernsey which came with a prize of £500 to help with the conservation work on site. The Insurance Corporation are also one of our Build Partners who are part of our newest build project which has some very exciting news coming very soon.

Last night the GSPCA greeted 12 new faces wanting to help out at the Animal Shelter and 24/7 work that is carried out
Present were 2 interested in carrying out their Duke of Edinburgh with the others wanting to help with dog walking to reception, cat pen cleaning to helping with the wildlife, fund raising to volunteering to gain experience for their CV and some to help gain life skills.
On Monday night a very upset member of public arrived with what was believed to be a dead cat that had been found and kindly placed into a box wrapped in a blanket.
The member of public arrived out of hours and was greeted by GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who was on night duty.
The kind individual was asked to take a seat and for details while the GSPCA Manager checked in the receiving room what was thought to be a dead cat for any identification or microchip.
Yesterday the GSPCA welcomed another wonderful group of volunteers from the fantastic team at Northern Trust.
