Submitted by Steve on 12:47, 19th Sep, 2014 | 0

A variety of animals from the GSPCA Animal Shelter will be living in Castle Cornet for a day to celebrate World Animal Day.

We remember the animals who have played a part in history by living in the Castle, there will be interactive talks on animal welfare, children’s activities and ‘pet passports’ for children to collect stamps for different animals they see.

Young children are welcome to bring their cuddly toy animals for a special photo opportunity.

One lucky Barn Owl is back in the Wild

Submitted by Steve on 10:40, 19th Sep, 2014 | 0

On the 1st August a stunning Barn Owl was rescued and brought to the GSPCA that had sadly been caught in garden netting quite likely when she was hunting at night.

The bird who was called 'Beau' had very badly injured legs with the netting cutting deep through the skin.

She was rushed to the vets and put on a series of treatments and returned to the Shelter where she was placed in an Intensive Care Unit.

After a couple of weeks of treatment she was strong enough to be placed in one of our soft release aviaries where she gathered her strength.

Guernsey Kingfisher released back to the wild by the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 09:54, 18th Sep, 2014 | 0

You may recall that last week we rescued a Kingfisher from the Model Yacht Pond in St Peter Port.

The female bird was exhausted and dehydrated and was the first of its species to be rescued by the GSPCA as far back as the team or records can recall.

She was named Deborah Kerr (after the actress from the 'King and I') and responded well to treatment so after 24 hours cage rest and what was a very quiet bird on arrival to a bird that was raring to go the decision was made to release her in a suitable location.

A Fiesta of Mexican Bingo & Food

Submitted by Steve on 17:55, 17th Sep, 2014 | 0

Last night the GSPCA descended on the Market Bistro with 70 amigos for a night of Mexican Bingo.

As yesterday was the Mexican Independence Day the GSPCA combined a night of Bingo with a Mexican theme.

From decorations to fancy dress and a wonderful Mexican buffet a fun night was had by all.

Each table was named after an animal that is either at the Shelter or has been rehomed or released back to the wild.

An Amamzing Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday - Thank you to everyone who helped make an amazing day

Submitted by Steve on 17:00, 17th Sep, 2014 | 0

On Sunday 14th September the GSPCA held our third Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday in St Peter Port and what a fantastic day it was.

Stall holders started arriving from 7am and with the road closing at 8am the set up began.

Although a little breezy the sun was shining and the weather was just right for an outside event.

At 9.40am the Battle of Britain marched through with a great group of spectators and they were inspected outside the Town Church by the Lieutenant Governor and Deputy Bailiff which started the day in a wonderful way.
