Can you help make knitted nests for our baby birds at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 15:44, 16th Jul, 2020 | 0

The GSPCA has had an incredibly busy year in 2020 with baby birds of all shapes and sizes.

We are appealing for volunteers to make knitted nests for the baby birds in our care.

With our intensive care units bursting with young animals these nests really help keep young birds feel safe and keep them warm.

On Wednesday 8th July St Peter Port was filled with hundreds of bikers who met up for a catch up and to raise funds for the GSPCA.

We cannot thank everyone involved with the Greenman Mcc Bike Night during these difficult days.

Not only was an amazing £1138.28 raised in aid of the GSPCA but we will also be receiving funds from a raffle being run by Millard and Co.

The GSPCA has to say a huge thanks to Hayley Lawrence who has been raising funds for the GSPCA and the animals in our care.

During these difficult times every penny helps make a huge difference and we cannot thank Hayley and those supporting her stall for the kind funds raised.

Hayley Lawrence said “My little stall can be found at Basses Capelles which is out most afternoons, evenings and weekends, weather permitting.”

“All items are handmade using resin.”

“I’m selling the signs and Lucky Horseshoes for £10.00, necklaces for £5.00 and bookmarks for £2.50.”

A magical day as Pebbles and Andrew two seal pups back in the wild

Submitted by Steve on 14:35, 10th Jul, 2020 | 0

Today a magical moment took place as Andrew the Jersey grey seal pup and Pebbles the Guernsey grey seal pup were returned back to the wild.

Andrew who was a tiny white coat when found in Jersey and rescued by the JSPCA and British Divers Marine Mammal Medics in November 2018 was one of the youngest and smallest pups ever to come into our care at the GSPCA. Last year Andrews progress was incredibly slow and we really worried if he would ever be fit and well enough to be released to the wild and due to his slow progress he is the longest ever seal resident to be in our care.

Seal Pups Pebbles and Andrew soon to be in the wild please donate to their final farewell meal

Pebbles who was rescued in Guernsey 5 months ago and Andrew the Jersey seal pup who is our longest ever seal in rehab at an incredible 19 months are both ready for their release to the wild.

All being well with weather conditions in the next 24 hours, both Andrew and Pebbles will be released back into the wild after an incredible amount of hard work by the team at the GSPCA and especially Geoff George Head of Marine Mammals.

Amazing news the GSPCA Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday will take place in 2020 on 13 September, details to follow, ideas welcome

Submitted by Steve on 11:25, 3rd Jul, 2020 | 0

Sadly earlier this year the GSPCA had to postpone the GSPCA Animal Welfare Sunday which was due to take place in May due to lockdown and the Coronavirus Crisis.

Thankfully due to Phase 5 and the amazing #GuernseyTogether spirit, events can now take place and we are delighted to announce that this wonderful and biggest event that we hold each year will indeed take place this year on Sunday 13th September 2020, and not what was being planned in 2021.
