We have to say a huge thanks to OSA Recruitment who once again are allowing us to take over their Pop Up Shop in Smith Street.
We will be opening the doors from Monday the 22nd September for the week and we will have a number of exciting new items that we will be promoting and we will let you know more information closer to the time.
We will of course have a selection of pet supplies, GSPCA goods, bric-a-brac and clothes as well as a display of animals looking for good homes.
We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles.
You need to be at least 14 years old to help at the Shelter. Although if you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may can help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter.
At the GSPCA we often get asked about dogs and cats looking for homes, but many forget the other pets in need at the Animal Shelter.
In recent years we have seen a growing number of stray and unwanted ferrets and rabbits and currently we have 19 ferrets and 16 rabbits at the GSPCA.
Some are still in their 21 days as a stray whilst we look for their owners or on treatment, but we do have 13 rabbits and 11 ferrets in need of new homes.
National Dog Day (Also known as: International Dog Day & National Dog Appreciation Day) is celebrated on the 26th August annually and serves to help galvanise the public to recognise the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, and acknowledges family dogs and dogs that work selflessly each day to save lives, keep us safe and bring comfort.
This Saturday whilst volunteers collect around Guernsey for the GSPCA Flag Day Lorna Prince the GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager is jumping out of a plane to raise funds to help animals in Guernsey.
Lorna Prince said "I am the Welfare Manager at the GSPCA and see how hard the Charity, it's volunteers and staff work to help wild and domestic animals in the Channel Islands."
"The GSPCA is supported wholly by donations and does not receive any State's funding."
Yesterday the GSPCA rescued a very poorly ginger cat.
The stray ginger very thin entire male was found with no microchip or collar in St Peter Port.
We have now named the young adult male cat Elmo but due to his ill health he has been rushed to the vets where they are keeping in their care on a drip.
Elmo has been in the La Petite Fontaine area since Sunday the 17th August.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "I have just spoken to our vets and Elmo is not very well at all and will need to be kept in at the vets over the weekend on a drip."
With only 2 days until the GSPCA Flag Day event on Saturday 23rd August we are looking for help.
We would love to hear from you or your business if you are able to help us out this Saturday or at any of the events we are at.
If you can help at one of the slots below or even pop a bucket on your counter at work then please could you contact Sarah Ozanne at the Shelter on 257261 with the time slot and location or if you would like us to drop a bucket or collection tin to your place of work we would love to hear from you.
Yesterday afternoon the GSPCA were called to an injured guillemot at Petit Bot.
When GSPCA Ambulance Collection Officer Geoff George arrived he was faced with a very distressed and badly injured bird.
The guillemot had been caught with a floating fishing lure which had 3 sets of 3 hooks embedded in the back of the bird.
The lure had to be cut off and stitched which took place yesterday at Isabelle Vets.
The bird was then transported to the Shelter where he has been named Stitch and was placed in an intensive care unit over night.
Tonight with the fireworks at the North Show in Saumarez Park please don't forget about your pets.
The firework display starts at 10pm and to see a programme of events from their website please click here.
We are at the North Show once again today next to the fur and feather tent, so please pop by and see the team raising funds for the Shelter and giving advice and talking about animals in need of a home.
