Today at the GSPCA we welcomed our second group of Voluntourists.
6 holiday makers from the Crystal Serenity spent much of today learning about and helping animals in Guernsey.
This was the second group of its kind at the Shelter and for the second time after their morning at the GSPCA they left smiling having had an enjoyable time.
We are over joyed to announce that Andy Alford, Guy Rogers and Ben Byrom from Guernsey plus a friend for London, Rich Harland, have completed their challenge climbing Mt Blanc.
Andrew Alford said "Just wanted to write a quick thank you to everyone that’s sponsored us on the climb and to say we’re back."
"After a tough few days training/hiking/climbing we reached the mountain hut on Thursday 7th before summiting on Friday 8th at around 6.30am just as the sun came up."
"Amazing week, a few scary moments, and with a new found love for heights and climbing."
For the third year in a row the GSPCA attended the West Show this week, and once again it was a great event.
With a very sunny Wednesday and Thursday a little wet in the morning the GSPCA team had a fantastic two days raising funds, talking to those interested in volunteering and also many interested in adopting animals from the Shelter.
A giant elephant helped on the Wednesday and Bernard the GSPCA Mascot turned up on the Thursday to entertain the passers by.
Last Friday and Saturday the GSPCA manned a stall at the first of the summer shows in St Martins.
With Friday proving quite challenging with wet weather and Saturday in the sun the team enjoyed the two days fund raising at the wonderful local event.
With plenty of games and shelter under the two gazebos from the rain and sun the stall proved very popular and raised a grand total of £423.29p.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We had a great time at the South Show last week and even with the wet Friday we were kept very busy."
At the GSPCA we currently have 3 cats in need of support.
You may have heard the story of Popeye the cat. Sadly Popeye has a very poorly eye that requires additional investigations and an operation. He came in with a cat called Grayson after their owner sadly passed away. We would love to rehome them together, but before we can we need to get Popeye fit and well.
During the last week of August at the GSPCA we will be running a series of open days and guided tours.
These kick off from the Bank Holiday Monday the 25th August.
During the week between 9am and 5pm we will have bric-a-brac to new goods on sale, also refreshments including hot drinks.
When you arrive you will also be able to see some of the animals looking for good homes in our aviary and on Bunny Hop Hill.
At the GSPCA in Guernsey we help rescue, rehome, reunite and rehabilitate more cats than any other species of domestic animals.
Today on World Cat Day we are appealing for donations for a very poorly cat.
Popeye is a one eyed feline that needs a great deal of treatment on his right eye before he can find that forever home.
Popeye is a young male cat that has come into the GSPCA with another cat called Greyson as sadly his owner passed away.
