We are graced around Guernsey with many veg hedge boxes selling all sorts of goods and today at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in Guernsey we unveiled our very own which will help raise funds for animals.
Made at the Shelter the three shelved box has a number of donated items from bric-a-brac to books.
We also have placed a poo bin at the front of the Shelter for passing walkers to dispose of their pooches faeces.
Last night in the Market Square the Livingroom Customer Service Awards were held.
Businesses and charities across Guernsey were represented in the many categories.
The GSPCA were lucky enough to have our very own Helen Holmes short listed in the Humble Volunteer category and was overwhelmed to win the award.
Last night the GSPCA staff and volunteers were kept very busy with stray animals and wildlife.
It is often very busy at this time of year, but one of the animals rescued from a cat and brought in was an extremely rare sight for Guernsey.
A Natterer's Bat was brought in which have only been seen on a very small number of occasions.
There is said to be a breeding colony in Jersey, but no such location has been found in Guernsey that we know of.
With the New Animal Welfare Ordinance (2012) coming into effect this week a meeting was held with those at the forefront of implementing and working with the new legislation.
Staff from Commerce and Employment including Mike Northmore and David Chamberlin the States Vet, staff from the GSPCA including the Manager Steve Byrne and Welfare and Education Officer Sarah Creasey and the Guernsey Police Training Officers PC Claire Milner and PC Adrian Walder met to discuss the changes and the implications to the animals of Guernsey and their owners.
This Saturday at the St Pierre Park Hotel it is the Viva Las Vegas Casino Ball to raise funds for two local charities the GSPCA and the Thomson Memorial Trust.
With a 1950/60's dress code, casino, an American themed menu, the band Jomali, a fantastic raffle and lot's or surprises planned we are all looking forward to a great night.
On Saturday the GSPCA were invited along to the Vauvert School Summer Fayre.
The gates were opened at 2.30pm by Dave the Minion and with the queues extending hundreds of yards both up and down the street in St Peter Port outside the school the stalls were flooded with adults and children.
For the GSPCA we had a Coconut Shy, Spin the Wheel, Tombola, a selection of animals looking for homes, pet supplies and other fund raising goods.
Earlier this year Sarah Ozanne and Lucy Ogier (Animal Care Assistants at the GSPCA) organised a competition to increase awareness of Hedgehogs in Guernsey.
There were two classes - creating a 'Hedgehog Awareness Poster' and 'Build a Hedgehog House'.
We were amazed by the response and had some fantastic entries.
This Wednesday at 6.30pm the GSPCA is holding a Volunteer Induction Evening at the Shelter.
Every 6 to 8 weeks we hold Volunteer Induction Evenings where if you are interested in helping at the GSPCA fund raise, walk dogs, gardening, muck out, on reception or in any role we tell you all about the Shelter, our work, go through an induction in working safely and finish off with a chat about getting you started and setting a date.
On Wednesday Sarah Creasey the GSPCA Education and Welfare Officer will run through the induction which takes around 90 minutes.
