TEN members of staff from the Medical Specialist Group gave up a sunny Saturday this weekend to undertake voluntary work at the GSPCA.
The Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has a huge variety of duties that need to be completed on a daily basis and so are very grateful when islanders volunteer to give them a hand.
As well as the obvious chores of feeding and exercising animals and cleaning out the kennels and cattery, there are also a number of site-maintenance jobs.
With another sunny and warm weekend ahead of us the GSPCA want to ensure all pet owners take care of their animals.
This week the GSPCA have had calls from concerned members of the public that have reported dogs locked in cars.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left regardless of the situation.
On Wednesday the GSPCA welcomed students from St Mary St Michael for a school visit.
Sarah Creasey the Welfare and Education Officer met the students at the front the GSPCA Animal Shelter before showing the children the facilities in St Andrews.

On Friday we saw the close of our Hedgehog Awareness Competition entries close and we have had so many fantastic posters and photos of hedgehog homes.
The team will be short listing the finalists this week but every day the GSPCA have been seeing sick, injured and young hedgehogs.
From strimmer injuries to hoglets (baby hedgehogs) found with no mother the GSPCA have been experiencing a busy Spring with hedgehogs as well as other species.
National Microchipping Month is a campaign that encourages and promotes responsible pet ownership through microchipping as the preferred method of permanent identification. Throughout the month of June the GSPCA will be supporting this event by offering reduced priced microchipping for only £3.99 for dogs, cats and rabbits (normal price at the GSPCA £4.99).
On Saturday 21st June the GSPCA & Grow Limited have teamed up to put on a fund raiser at the Grow Limited site on Les Petit Quartiers, Coutanchez, St Sampsons.
Starting at 10am and running until 3pm there will be lots to see and do.
From animals looking for homes to a huge plant sale, bric-a-brac to a BBQ with RSPCA Freedom Food from Perelle Butchers, cake sale to tombola, pop along and join in the fun.
Today the GSPCA have been at the OSA recruitment Pop Up Shop with a selection of other charities to speak to the community about volunteering.
With the sun shining, the GSPCA would like to thank OSA Recruitment, Volunteer.gg, Association of Guernsey Charities and the Community Foundation for the chance to join some great causes in St Peter Port to spread the word of helping animals in Guernsey through Volunteers Week.
Today the OSA Pop Up Shop in Smith Street, St Peter Port will be manned by a variety of charities and one of the themes is animals as part of volunteers week.
We will have information on hand and hopefully representatives between 10am and 2pm and also 5pm and 7pm.
If you are interested in helping animals in Guernsey then there are many roles and ways you can get involved with the GSPCA, so please pop down or you can call the Shelter on 01481 257261 for details.
Around the clock volunteers in Guernsey are helping animals whether at the GSPCA or other animal charities.
Every single night of the year a volunteer helps ensure that at the GSPCA we can provide around the clock emergency cover.
The volunteers that make up this fantastic group come from all walks of the community and help ensure every night between 6pm until 8am the next someone can go out to rescue an animal in need.
Matt Hill-Smith and Jen Bradshaw are two of our volunteer wardens and help cover on average two nights a week.
On Sunday at Fairfields we held our annual Summer Fayre and Dog Show.
With the sun shining the GSPCA would like to than k all involved and that supported what turned out to be a fantastic day.
GSPCA staff and volunteers were aided by a 20+ strong team of Barclays staff and some of their family members with organising and running their days.
