Another wonderful Volunteer Evening at the GSPCA

On Wednesday the 16th May we held our fourth Volunteer Induction Evening at the GSPCA of 2014.

Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager and Darren Monday were on hand to talk to the 7 new volunteers about the work of the Shelter and induct the keen new volunteers about the procedures and protocols at the Animal Shelter.

Some were interested in helping fund raise, others clean kennels, walk dogs, socialise cats and even those doing their Duke of Edinburgh.

Hot Weather Warning from the GSPCA - please think of your pets with the sunny Guernsey weather

With another sunny and warm weekend ahead of us the GSPCA want to ensure all pet owners take care of their animals.

Many of us love to enjoy the sunny warm weather but we are urging pet owners to be mindful of their animals.

Don't leave your dog alone in a car.

Homemaker Co-operative Car Boot Sale in aid of the GSPCA Sunday 22nd June

Car Boot Sale in aid of the GSPCA on Sunday June 22nd 9.30am set up for a 10am start until 2pm.

It will be held at the Homemaker Car Park, Lowlands Industrial Site, St Sampsons with food, drink and face painting available.

Pitch Price £5 and please pay on the day.

Rabbit Awareness Week - 5 rabbits in need of a home at the GSPCA in Guernsey & 4 babies rescued now being hand reared

At the GSPCA we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome between 100 and 200 rabbits every year.

Each May Rabbit Awareness Week takes place and rescues highlight the rabbits in their care, those needed homes and good practice caring for rabbits.

Often called the forgotten pet the GSPCA are often called out to rabbits in need that may have dirty cages, no fresh food and very little to do.

Rabbits are highly social animals and really need company, but it is very important to neuter and vaccinate them at the same time.

The GSPCA would like to thank MENFUN for inviting us to join them last Sunday with their Car Boot Sale in the Alliance Car Park.

We also have to thank all the brave sellers that supported the event on what was a very windy and occasionally showery day.

Steve Byrne and Helen Holmes from the GSPCA took a stall down with a selection of goods, bric-a-brac and clothes.

Volunteer Induction Evening Wednesday 14th May

We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles. Volunteers helping raise funds for the GSPCA Animal Shelter Guernsey

You need to be at least 14 years old to help at the Shelter.  Although if you are younger then you could still help.  If you talk to your parents or guardians they may can help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter.

Take care when out in the garden and look out for our prickly friends - Hedgehog Awareness Week

Rose is just one of the hedgehogs to arrive at the Shelter after being injured by a garden strimmer.

Every year hedgehogs are injured by gardening equipment such as strimmers, hedge cutters and lawn mowers.

Rose who has been at the Shelter for three weeks is healing well, although is still having treatment.

Annabelle Janes Animal Care Assistant said 'Poor Rose the hedgehog had one of the worst wounds to her head that we have seen this year at the GSPCA.'

'It is really important to check before you start using garden machinery for wildlife such as hedgehogs.'
