Earlier this year the GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne celebrated his 40th year and helped raise funds for the GSPCA instead of cards and gifts.

Steve at the time decided that he had put on a little weight in recent years so made the decision to get fit and run the Guernsey Dairy Milk Run Half Marathon.

It was certainly a hoping Easter at the GSPCA with bunnies

Submitted by Steve on 16:38, 26th Apr, 2019 | 0

The GSPCA has recently seen a huge rise in the numbers of rabbits coming into our care.

With 25 rabbits looking for new homes and many more coming in over the next few days Easter was certainly a busy time at the GSPCA for those that care for the rabbits.

Many of the GSPCA rabbits looking for homes are now outside on our Bunny Hop Hill and we are not only appealing for new homes for those in our care but we are also appealing for funds to help build new enclosures for the rabbits at the GSPCA.

Spring advice from the GSPCA with the many baby birds being seen and found around Guernsey

Submitted by Steve on 16:16, 26th Apr, 2019 | 0

With Spring well underway the GSPCA are asking Islanders to please be mindful of the many fledglings popping up around the Bailiwick.

The GSPCA would like to remind that as a general rule, it is best to leave baby birds alone.

A baby bird has a greater chance of survival in the wild than it has being hand-reared by man as they learn to fend for themselves and how to forage for food by their parents.

Around 2 weeks after hatching young birds in your Bailiwick garden usually leave the nest, just before they learn how to fly.

Not Good but GREAT Friday as Marty the seal pup released back into his Jersey home waters

Submitted by Steve on 16:35, 19th Apr, 2019 | 0

After months of care and with good weather on our site the GSPCA released Marty the Jersey seal pup back in the wild today and it was without doubt one of the best releases ever for the GSPCA team.

This Winter has been exceptionally busy for seal pups at the GSPCA as up until this morning we have had 6 in our care but thanks to a lovely Jersey family and their boat Marty is now back in the wild.

Marty arrived at the GSPCA on the 17th December just a week before Christmas last year weighing just 18kg when he should have been 40kg.
