Hot Cars Kill Dogs & hot pavements damage feet- GSPCA have been called to a number of dogs left in vehicles in recent days

Submitted by Steve on 07:28, 27th Jun, 2018 | 0

The GSPCA during hot weather often receive reports from concerned members of the public that have seen dogs locked in cars and the recent few days have been no different

The GSPCA team have been out to a number of vehicles with reports of dogs locked inside with little or no ventilation.

With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.

The GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to the Petplan Charitable Trust.

As a result of our recent Urgent Kennel Appeal the Petplan Charitable Trust have donated £5,000 to this must needed and urgent work.

Over the last two months much needed work on the kennel floors has taken place, but this uncovered major drain and structural issues.

Our kennels which were built in 2005 had a vinyl flooring put down which had sadly got to a point recently where new flooring was desperately needed which has been taking place since mid May.

You normally see Hoglets in May, June or July, when the first litters are generally born, and in August-September, when the second litters are often born, although we do see them throughout the year when the weather is mild.

The last few weeks have been extremely busy not only with abandoned baby hedgehogs or hoglets as they are called being found but also some of the injured hedgehogs giving birth at the GSPCA.

The team are devastated as Iris the seal pup passes away

Submitted by Steve on 08:10, 15th Jun, 2018 | 0

Yesterday Iris a grey seal pup at just 15kgs arrived at the GSPCA which was the most unseasonal grey seal pup the GSPCA had in their care.

The pup when she arrived was incredibly emaciated and the team were extremely concerned for her condition and the reasons why she was so thin at this time of year.

Despite the vets out yesterday on a number of occasions and the care of the team at the GSPCA Iris was fitting which was of huge concern and despite treatment she passed away in the early hours of this morning.

Next Friday June 22nd is 'Bring Your Dog to Work Day' - instead of a dress down day could your dog come to work for a donation

Submitted by Steve on 14:02, 14th Jun, 2018 | 0

Next Friday June 22nd is Bring Your Dog to Work Day.

Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.

When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work.  Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?

Discussing the benefits of taking a dog to work might just result in a match with a dog we have in for homing.
