Today a large tortoise has been rescued in the road on Ville Amphrey in St Martins.
He is now in the care of the Shelter after sustaining an injury to his shell and resting in a pen under the care of the team at the GSPCA.
The team with the finder have named him 'Speedy' and we are appealing for the owner to please get in touch.
During Spring and Summer the GSPCA often see up to 30 male stray tortoise, although we rarely see females that are lost.

Today many of the staff have been heart broken as Jackie La Marchant put down her broom for the final time at the GSPCA.
Having helped 2 days a week for over 15 years and at the age of 82 years she said a sad farewell to team.
Jackie has been a massive help in the Hospital Department caring for the many sick and injured animals at the Shelter and Yvonne Chauvel Senior Animal Care Assistant will especially miss Jackie as she has been a real star in her department.
All this week two students from St Sampsons High School have been helping out at the GSPCA.
Grace Juggins and Lucy Hockey have been helping care for the 350 animals at the Shelter and learning about the work of the GSPCA.
Both have been a fantastic help and we thought we needed to make a special mention as they have worked so well and we have enjoyed their company as both have been extremely polite, hard working and very interested in the many areas of the Shelter.
On the 25th June the Furze Oven teamed up with Island FM to run the great Guernsey Bake Off.
Entries of cakes from around Guernsey were baked and entered into the competition which took place in St Martins.
The entries were short listed to 10 all of which were blind tasted by the judges Carolyn Le Maitre from Island FM, Quinn Hamon and Shaun McDonald from the Furze Oven and their new cake shop on the Pollet called Gâche.
Today GSPCA team members are putting together a travel box to meet IATA regulations for Olivia the loggerhead turtle as flight plans are finalised.
Having spoken to countless contacts and working with the wonderful vets and team at Petair we are hopeful to find transport and a route at a cost less than £12,500 than previously quoted which may well be with less time in the air for Olivia.
