At the GSPCA until only 2 weeks ago we hadn't on record rescued a kingfisher.
Only days before the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday we rescued Deborah Kerr as we named her from the model yacht pond and we released after 24 hours of care.
Yesterday a second kingfisher was rescued and brought into the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
The majestic bird was found stunned on a drive in the Vale and is now in an Intensive Care Unit.
On Saturday 4th October it is World Animal Day and to help celebrate and spread the good word of the work that goes on in Guernsey the GSPCA will once again be in Market Square with a stall to raise funds for the Shelter, for advice and also we will have a selection of animals in need of good homes.
We will be on the Terrace between 10am and 4pm and if you would like to volunteer on the stall please give us a call on 01481 257261 or email [email protected]
Today we are pleased to announce that thanks to our many supporters our Easyfundraising has raised over £1000.
Easyfundraising.org.uk is a great way to raise money for charities, schools, sports clubs, community groups, and other good causes just by shopping online. You don’t pay anything extra. So far they’ve raised over £7 million for causes throughout the UK.
With Christmas only 90 days away there will be many about to shop online and to no extra cost to yourself you could help support the GSPCA or many other local good causes.
At the GSPCA we take safety of the staff, volunteers, visitors and animals very seriously.
With between 200 and 300 animals at the Shelter at any one time the team need to ensure how to act in any incident or accident.
All staff and volunteers are required to go through a comprehensive induction and read through a training booklet before they can help on site.
On the 4th October it is World Animal Day and to celebrate the GSPCA & Alderney Animal Welfare are launching an event called Paws for a Pint.
We are asking pubs. restaurants, hotels and anyone that would like to get involved to please sign up.
With over 20 pubs already involved in Guernsey and a number in Alderney, why don't you get in touch to find out more.
From organising an event at your local, to popping GSPCA collection boxes on the bar, maybe an animal fancy dress competition or even karaoke with animal themed songs.
During half term in October 2014 and just after Christmas the GSPCA we will be running a series of guided tours.
There are always hot drinks, snacks and goods on sale during our open times Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm but this is your opportunity to visit behind the scenes.
We are arranging guided tours on a series of dates at 2pm.
We are asking for a minimum donation of £5 per person and £3 per child, or £15 for a family of four.
Yesterday the GSPCA and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People Guernsey enjoyed a wonderful afternoon Sunday Lunch organised by Sidney's Sponsored Events.
The event was held at Les Cotils and with the breath taking view from the Harry Bound Room the diners were served fantastic food in picturesque surroundings.
Corinne Connolly was the main organisor of the event helped by Sarah Brown from Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
Tomorrow on Saturday 20th September at 11am you can here all about how Ollie Guillou learned about the work that goes on behind the scenes at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
He got to handle a few of the animals and even muck out.
