We are pleased to announce that Temperance the seal pup who was rescued at the start of November last year has more than doubled his weight.

The thinnest ever seal pup we have rescued here in Guernsey at only 11kg is now up to 28.2kg.

Head carer of Temperance GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and Marine Mammal Carer at the GSPCA Geoff George is pleased to report the huge gain in weight and improvements in health.

It is even more special as we enter the last two days of GSPCA Purple Week celebrating 145 years of helping animals in Guernsey.

We are pleased to report that Sami is growing stronger each day and eating fish extremely well.

Sami is still a long way off being ready to be released back to the wild and we are appealing for your support to help feed Sami.

Geoff George GSPCA Animal Collection Officer and head carer of marine mammals said "We are so pleased how Sami is doing and especially how well Sami is eating."

On Saturday the first seal pup of 2017 was rescued and brought to the GSPCA from Jersey.

Jonathon as the young animal has been called is needing 24/7 around the clock intensive care due to his thin and very ill health.

Full of worms and with a number of injuries the vets and team at the GSPCA are providing this very poorly seal with all he needs to help ensure he survives at this very delicate time.

Sami who was rescued just after Christmas in Jersey is improving daily although months away from being well enough to be released back into the wild.

Sami the seal pup eating on her own at the GSPCA - could you help donate to feed her fish and the other animals in our care

Submitted by Steve on 15:27, 6th Jan, 2017 | 0

We are pleased to announce that Sami the seal pup rescued in jersey between Christmas and New Years has started eating fish all on her own.

She is extremely thin so it will take months before she is strong enough to release to the wild and it would be wonderful if you could help donate to her care to help towards the fish she will need as well as help the hundreds of other animals in our care.

We will of course keep you up to date with her progress.

A grey seal pup was found stranded at the high tide mark on Tuesday 27th December at Bonne Nuit Bay.  The JSPCA, who were initially called by a dog walker that morning, made a call for the BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) to come and assess the pup.

Donna de Gruchy (British Divers Marine Life Rescue, Channel Isles coordinator) said “The pup was found to be a Grey seal (common on our offshore reefs), with a moulted coat indicating the pup would now be weaned from its mother."

Update on Poppy the grey seal pup at the GSPCA - can you help donate to her care

Submitted by Steve on 17:04, 25th Nov, 2016 | 0

Last week an extremely young grey seal pup with no mum in site was rescued in Alderney.

Poppy as she has been called is responding well to treatment and has made it through the first 12 days at the GSPCA.

The are now clear signs of her losing her white coat and we continue to do all we can to ensure she survives.

The GSPCA working with local vets have been giving Poppy around the clock intensive care in a heated isolated seal room at the Shelter and we are pleased to say she is now receiving fish as well as other treatments.
