Every year the GSPCA helps dozens of ferrets and Good Friday is their special day.
At the GSPCA we currently have 7 ferrets in need of homes and your support.
Pictured is Benji just one of those ferrets.
Our ferrets are neutered before rehoming and we also treat them for any other ailments they may have and we will carry out a home visit before they are homed.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "Good Friday is Ferret Day and every year we help find dozens of them new and loving homes."
The GSPCA never know what and where something might arrive from and yesterday a poorly bird flew into Guernsey needing our help not by feather but instead by Aurigny wings.
Ronald Gauvin Alderney Wildlife Trust CEO said “Caring for our wildlife and natural environment is often a team effort, and never more so than in the case of wildlife rescue.”
The GSPCA never know what we will be called for or when but on Saturday the last day of lockdown a real challenge to help rescue an injured bat was called in.
Beckie Bailey GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “Did you read our post at the weekend about a bat needing a boat ride from Sark to Guernsey!”
“On Saturday the Shelter was struggling to get permission to collect the bat from Sark as the islands were still in phase 2.”
“However, Sunday morning we had a very positive phone call!!!! We had permission to collect the bat!!”
Did you know it is Guinea Pig Awareness Week?
Every year the GSPCA helps guinea pigs in many ways from strays, to those owners keep to give up to find a home to investigating cruelty.
Nicolle Morgan GSPCA Animal Care Assistant said “Guinea Pig Awareness Week, or GPAW, is a week of activities dedicated to improving the health and welfare of guinea pigs!”
“The 22nd - 28th March is the first ever awareness week for guinea pigs, organized by Burgess!”
It is amazing the ideas both young and those more mature think to raise funds to help the many animals in our care and the work carried out 24/7 by the GSPCA
Lizzie Ferbrache said “My children would like to do some fundraising for the GSPCA.”
“They would like to do some selling in time for Easter.”
“They were planning to make cones with little eggs in wrappers and possibly some sewn rabbit toys.”
“They wanted to sell hedge veg style in aid of the GSPCA.”
“They are Libby 11, Benjamin 9, Darcie 7 and Freddi-Jayne 6.”

Yesterday was National Chinchilla Day and the GSPCA team wanted to share some great news.

“After months of waiting through isolation and lockdown, he finally met his new mum today and she is smitten! Who wouldn't be?!”
“He will be greatly missed by our staff but we cannot wait to see him off to his forever home!”
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thanks to volunteer Karen Brozka for making cards and selling them to raise funds for our animal welfare work and the many animals in our care during lockdown.
Karen said “Hope you are well and managing to get through this challenging time.”
“As Baxter (my goldie) and I have not been able to go out and rattle the tin for you lately, I decided to do a little fund raising.”
“Not much, £100, but hopefully this will help towards hedgehog meals or a few runs at food etc.”
Over the past months the GSPCA has been called out to or had brought in over sick, injured or deceased 300 pigeons.
On the 9th February the GSPCA confirmed Paramyxovirus in the wild pigeon population which has been killing hundreds of birds since the start of 2021.
In fact of the 300 birds that the GSPCA has rescued or had brough to the Shelter very sadly only 17 have survived.
In September 2009 the States of Guernsey agreed to change the way in which tax relief was given in respect of donations to Guernsey Registered Charities (GRC).
Previously income tax relief was only available to individuals who made payments under an irrevocable Deed of Covenant in favour of a Guernsey Registered Charity for a period in excess of 3 years; no relief was available to Guernsey resident individuals in respect of noncovenanted donations to Guernsey charities.
In summary, the system up to 2020 works as follows:
