With another sunny and warm weekend ahead of us the GSPCA want to ensure all pet owners take care of their animals.
This week the GSPCA have had calls from concerned members of the public that have reported dogs locked in cars.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left regardless of the situation.
The GSPCA would like to apologise for a technical fault experienced on Saturday night during our out of hours service.
We had a number of reports Saturday evening that the 24 hour emergency helpline number was not being answered between approximately 7pm and 10pm.
When we were made aware that the divert to the on call warden had an issue it was changed as there appeared to be a fault.
Today we had the lovely Jenny Kendall-Tobias from BBC Guernsey visit the GSPCA Animal Shelter.
Jenny came up to visit Robbie a horse who is in need of a special home.
Robbie arrived at the Shelter at the end of February as his owner could no longer care for him.
Since then we have had the vet and the farrier check over the 17 hand Dutch Warm Blood to tell us the type of home he will need.
Friday the 23rd May was not only a joyous and wonderful day for the team at the GSPCA, but also filled with tears and hope.
Grey seal pups Trinity and Eden who were rescued in January of this year were found very close to death and if it hadn't been for the rescue and rehabilitation at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews, Guernsey then they certainly wouldn't have made it in the wild.
Yesterday morning GSPCA staff made preparations to release the young seal pups which were rescued separately earlier this year.
On Monday starts Hedgehog Week and to kick off the awareness week the GSPCA have launched two competitions for those aged between 4 and 16 years of age.
With 200 to 300 hedgehogs rescued every year at the GSPCA we see all ages with a variety of health problems.
Sarah Ozanne Animal Care Assistant in the Hedgehog Unit said 'With Spring we see hedgehogs awake and starting to give birth.'
Spring is always a busy time at the GSPCA with many baby birds, hedgehogs waking, young animals being born and many animals coming through the doors.
On Friday last week the GSPCA were pleased to welcome 11 staff from Northern Trust who gave their day to help the team at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
