From the team and animals at the GSPCA we would like to thank OSA Recruitment as not only did we raise much needed funds, we spoke to those interested in volunteering, those looking to adopt an animal and also publicise our Build Partner programme.

Last week 40 pupils from Acorn House visited the GSPCA to learn all about animal welfare and keep the animals at the Animal Shelter entertained.

Lorna Prince Animal Welfare Manager and Sarah Creasey Animal Welfare and Education Officer looked after the Acorn House pupils.

Shortly after the group arrived they were split in half so that each group could take it in turns having a guided tour of the facilities, whilst the other learnt about making enrichment toys for the animals at the GSPCA before swapping over.

Warning to dog owners L’Ancresse/Pembroke – dead cow on beach

Earlier today the GSPCA were informed of a dead cow that had been washed onto our coast and passed the information to the States Vet.

The Environment Department is advising dog owners that a dead cow (adult) has been washed up on to the rock outcrop in the centre of L’Ancresse/Pembroke bay today.

The body is in very poor condition and it may pose a hazard to dogs if they eat it.

David Chamberlain, the States Vet, considers the cow is likely to be of French origin.

Last night the GSPCA held the first bingo night of 2015 at the Market Bistro.

To help celebrate Australia Day, it was held with an Australian theme with a giant kangaroo calling out the numbers.

Last year the GSPCA held 5 bingo evenings and we have a total of 11 planned for 2015 and the first one last night started off with a great attendance and even attracted a crowd of Australians who wanted to celebrate their National day.

Amber living happily ever after

Submitted by Steve on 11:15, 26th Jan, 2015 | 0

At the GSPCA we see animals of all shapes, ages and sizes in need of good homes coming through our doors.

Last October a female tabby cat called Amber arrived at 12 years of age.

She couldn't go straight up for adoption as she needed her bloods taken and ensure she was healthy.

After the results came back thankfully she was fine although her kidney levels would need monitoring as she gets older.

We have a waiting list for new owners looking for kittens, but often struggle finding the older cats a new home.

The GSPCA would like to thank a very kind and brave young lady.

Ailsa Duncan age 10 raised a fantastic £51 through sponsorship after taking a very cold dip in the sea.

As many adults and some youngsters brave the sea on Christmas Day, Ailsa aged 10 took the opportunity to combine a brave act with raising funds to help animals in Guernsey by doing the Polar Bear Swim.

Can you help us help Kenya our longest stay cat find that forever home?

Submitted by Steve on 18:13, 20th Jan, 2015 | 0

Kenya has been with us since the 10th July 2013 and is now our longest stay cat in need of a home as we recently rehomed Mitzi.

Kenya originally was a very nervous cat when he first arrived at the GSPCA and did not always show himself well to people he didn't know.

Kenya now has got to know quite a few different people, which has made his confidence blossom and helped him realise that there are lots of nice people in the world.

Kenya needs a quiet home only as an only pet and is also not good with children (he still finds them very scary).
