The Guernsey Arts Commission are proud to announce that Arts Sunday this year will be going ahead on the revised date of 9th August, that’s this Sunday between 10am and 4pm.
The last few months have been a strange time for the whole Island, but what has emerged from this has been the importance of creativity to bring the community together and spread positivity.
Due to this, they have decided to continue on from the last few months and are happy to announce the theme will be Guernsey Together – A celebration of community and kindness within the Arts.
SAVE THE DATE - Le Friquet's Annual Family Fun Day returns on August 8th 2020!!
This FREE event celebrates the start of Summer in style with a huge range of activities and fun for the whole family to enjoy.
This is always an extremely exciting event in their calendar and we hope you'll all join us and them for an afternoon of family fun in the sun!
Yes once again the GSPCA will be there with lots of tombolas and games to raise funds for the many animals in our care, taking place 11am until 4pm.
Last month at the GSPCA we shared an important message about helping hedgehogs and after todays record number arrived in one morning we wanted to share that important information.
Of the 13 hedgehogs two were able to go back to the wild, one was sadly deceased on arrival and 10 others are now in our Hedgehog Department with a variety of injuries, ailments and ages requiring our care.
With a total of 348 hedgehogs coming into our care during 2020 since the 1st January it looks likely we will see another record breaking number of hedgehogs to need our help.
Statement from the States of Guernsey website -
‘The States of Guernsey results from the post-mortem and analysis of stomach contents of a fourth peregrine falcon have shown that it too died of professional-use pesticides.
States Veterinary Officer David Chamberlain and Deputy States Veterinary Officer Grace Hodgkinson have confirmed the results for the bird, which was found dead in June.
The first pet cat in the UK has been confirmed to have the Coronavirus this week. Although this is the first confirmed case of an animal infection with the Coronavirus strain in the UK, there is no evidence to suggest that the animal was involved in transmission of the disease to its owners or that pets or other domestic animals are able to transmit the virus to people.
On the 15th July GSPCA team member Kevin Beausire was called out to Doyle Street next to the Swan Inn in St Peter Port for a poorly bird.
On arrival Kevin discovered an egret sat in a gutter and with some help from a kind workman managed to catch the poorly bird and return ‘Odette’ as she was called back to the GSPCA.
After a few days of intensive care and as she improved she went out onto the rehab pools and by Tuesday this week Odette was cleared fit to be returned to the wild.
We love to hear how the animals are doing which were adopted from the GSPCA and this week we hear about Harry the yorkie.
Harrys owner said “It is 9 months since we adopted Harry. He has settled in really well.”
“He has 2 or 3 walks a day, we built up gradually from short to now an hour long in the afternoon.”
“He is very affectionate, sleeps most of the night on our bed, the rest in his bed.”
“He has much improved in attitude to other dogs, with the help of a few treats!”
“We are very happy with him and he with us.”
Sidney’s Sponsored Events and the GSPCA are sorry to say that we are postponing the Party Time at the Farmhouse that was due to take place on Saturday 8th August.

A huge thanks to all that joined in with the family fun in Market Square, last Saturday 18th July.
We joined in to celebrate all things #GuernseyTogether with a kids area, markets for the adults, and performances throughout the day.
GSPCA volunteers were there with our stall for the first time since lock down with a selection of games and tombolas raising much needed funds for the animals in our care.
Earlier today a couple walking their dog and son found a stray young hognose snake near the Halfway filter.
