The amazing Mourant team sign up for the 2.6 Challenge to support the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 16:12, 23rd Apr, 2020 | 0

General fundraising has been hit very hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled and many charities, particularly smaller ones, are struggling to maintain services because of this huge reduction in income.

That's why Team Mourant in Guernsey has decided to take part in the 2.6 Challenge, a massive fundraising campaign taking place on Sunday 26 April – when the 40th London Marathon would have taken place. They have very kindly chosen to raise money for the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA).

First babies of 2020 born at the GSPCA

Submitted by Steve on 11:35, 23rd Apr, 2020 | 0

Today we have seen the first birth of 2020 at the GSPCA and we are delighted to say mum is a hedgehog.

As wonderful as this news is, it marks a time where we need to take extra care when out in the garden as others may have already been born and others will be due in the coming weeks.

Last year at the GSPCA we saw the highest number of hedgehogs come into our care in our history. An amazing 618 were rescued or born at the GSPCA and we have already seen 80 since the beginning of 2020, another record number.

Guernsey's BIGGEST Virtual Petshow to launch Friday 24th April in place of the Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday

Submitted by Steve on 12:16, 22nd Apr, 2020 | 0

On Friday 24th we will be launching our Virtual Petshow so we can celebrate animals in Guernsey and our pets past and present. Sadly due to the Corona virus the GSPCA has had to postpone it's biggest Seafront event and fundraiser of the year until 2021. Our Seafront Sunday, due to take place on Sunday May 31st is the biggest celebration of animals in Guernsey and raises much needed funds for the Shelter. This money is vital to enable us to continue with all of our essential work with companion animals and wildlife across the Islands.

A local therapy dog charity is reaching out to help another animal charity in need. Wellbeing Animals Guernsey (WAG) has made a donation of £1,000 to the GSPCA, primarily to help support the dogs in their care. WAG provides a network of volunteers who, with their dogs, visit many people in a variety of situations. The friendly canines regularly put smiles on the faces of patients in wards at the PEH, residents in care homes and many other establishments throughout the island.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM THE GSPCA - Hot Cars Kill Dogs & with social distancing queues you could be some time

Submitted by Steve on 11:13, 11th Apr, 2020 | 0

With a stunning day again in Guernsey and hot weather the GSPCA has had a number of reports from concerned members of the public that have seen dogs locked in cars during and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets.

The GSPCA team have already been out to a number of vehicles with reports of dogs locked inside with little or no ventilation.

With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.

HAPPY NEWS – Andrew doing well and soon to have a new friend

Submitted by Steve on 11:33, 10th Apr, 2020 | 0

We are pleased to say that Andrew the Jersey grey seal pup rescued over a year ago is nearly ready for the wild but we have one last step to go.

We are hoping when Pebbles the seal pup is ready to introduce them both so they can be released together.

Sadly due to the Coronavirus restrictions it is highly unlikely that we will be able to take a boat to Jersey to release Andrew where he was from with the social distancing rules in both islands.

HAPPY NEWS – Pebble the seal pup moves out into the Spring sunshine

Submitted by Steve on 11:28, 10th Apr, 2020 | 0

On the 13th February the GSPCA team were called out to a very poorly seal pup we named Pebbles and we have some great news as she is doing extremely well.

We were all so worried for her when she first arrived and she required around the clock intensive care, but each day she has improved and this week she got her first taste of the outdoors since arriving.

At only 2-3 months of age she is now eating fish well and we are all so pleased with her progress.
