This week at the GSPCA we have launched a new calendar specifically to help pet owners and those affected by fireworks in Guernsey.
The calendar has been embedded in a number of our web pages and is dedicated to being a central location to check when there are firework displays in Guernsey.
Over the last few years when we have been made aware of firework events we have used our social media to help inform pet owners to help them prepare their animals and pets to reduce their stress and problems they can cause.
Every year the GSPCA are called out and receive stray dogs and cats during the firework period that have either escaped or run off due to being scared by the loud bangs they make.
Sadly less than 45% of the stray dogs and cats are microchipped that are found as strays and brought to the GSPCA, and even less have collars with tags.
Next Wednesday is our Halloween Spooky BINGO Evening at the Market Bistro inside the Market Building, St Peter Port Wednesday 29th October
At £14.50 per person or £10.50 for children from 7pm includes Food and 8 Games of Bingo.
The menu includes Spooky Pie Buffet and Monster Mash including a Vegetarian and Dairy, Wheat and Gluten free options.
For a bit of ghostly bingo fun for Halloween week why not join us in fancy dress (optional) or bring a little drum or rattle to scare the ghosts away.
With the 5th November only two weeks away it is time to consider the pets in your household.
Every year during periods when fireworks are used many animals across Guernsey can become distressed and there are a number of precautions you can take to help ensure that you help settle your pets.

Although in Guernsey we seem to be well into Autumn young animals are still being found.
Only in the last few days a very young feral kitten has been found in the Admiral Park area.
The 10 week old male kitten which was found late on Friday night was full of worms and fleas and is extremely timid and nervous.
We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Shelter in a variety of roles.
You need to be at least 14 years old to help at the Shelter. Although if you are younger then you could still help. If you talk to your parents or guardians they may can help you with fund raising for the Animal Shelter.
Yesterday the GSPCA were called out to an injured gannet at Jaonnaise Bay.
Animal Collection Officer Geoff George attended the site where he had a fair walk to find the trapped bird.
As the sun was setting during early evening Geoff found the poor bird trapped in discarded fishing netting.
It was difficult to say how long the bird had been there so he quickly restrained the bird got it back to the van and brought the bird back to the Shelter in St Andrews.
The bird has survived over night and staff are currently monitoring its progress.

Yesterday the GSPCA had a lovely visit from a young lady called Rhonnie Taylor from the Forest.
Rhonnie popped in to visit the Shelter as she has been busy making and selling loombands to raise funds for the Animal Shelter.
We were delighted when Rhonnie popped in with an amazing total of £40.
Richard Chandler one of the GSPCA senior staff was at the front desk to greet and thank Rhonnie.
Richard Chandler said "It is fantastic to see the wonderful and new ways that kind individuals like Rhonnie find to raise funds to help animals in Guernsey."
