With Christmas only 2 weeks away the GSPCA are asking all islanders not to give pets as presents this festive season.
Many pet stores and breeders are advertising animals for sale at this time of year and the GSPCA believes that any pet is a life long commitment and important decision. Owning a new pet means making a permanent commitment to care for and spend time with the animal and to provide for their lifelong care.
On Friday as the hours of darkness descended the GSPCA were called out to rescue a stray we don't see every day.
Animal Collection Officer Geoff George responded to the call from The Yacht Inn in St Peter Port. As he started looking for the stray animal he found himself outside listening to locate the animal in need.
Geoff closed in to the tweeting and managed to catch what was a young female zebra finch.
From the 16th December the GSPCA will be in Smith Street thanks to OSA Recruitment with our Christmas Pop Up Shop.
The Shop will have some fantastic Christmas gifts for your pets and loved ones as well as a few surprises.
Next week we will have a Giant Dulux Dog in the window for ‘How Much Is That Doggy in the Window?’.
The GSPCA believe that pets should NOT be given as presents unless they are of the cuddly toy description, which there will be a good selection at the Pop Up Shop.
24 hours a day, 7 days a week staff and volunteers work around the clock at the GSPCA to ensure the animals are cared for and those in need can be rescued around Guernsey.
One of the wonderful additions that has benefited many animals at the Shelter has been our Wish List which we have both on our website and a link to an Amazon Wish List.
Since launching our Amazon Wish List in October 2012 nearly every week we have had wonderful donations from honey for the hedgehogs to heat lamps to keep those ill nice and warm.
Once again the GSPCA will be in town each Thursday with the run up to Christmas with gifts for you and your pets.
This year we will be placed outside Lloyds Bank where Smith Street meets the Pollet and we will be setting up from 5pm with all sorts of goodies.
From dog toys to cat stockings, reflective dog coats to GSPCA sweatshirts, dog and cat advent calendars to cuddly toys there's something for one and all.
With items starting from as little as 50p please pop by and support our stall and help animals in Guernsey this Christmas.
Today being Cyber Monday 2013 is the day that the GSPCA join the online shopping world selling GSPCA goods to help raise funds for animals in Guernsey.
