One of our Hoglets comes back to visit

Submitted by GSPCA on 17:42, 15th Nov, 2013 | 0

We were pleased to see a very fat and reasonably healthy Bella the Hedgehog recently here at the GSPCA.

Bella who was rescued as a Hoglet only days old in early Summer this year and required hand rearing was released back to the wild in August as a young adult Hedgehog.

The address where she was released have regularly seen her popping back for food and recently they noticed her covered in a large number of ticks so they managed to catch her and bring back to the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews for treatment.

Last Winter the GSPCA received large number of calls from concerned members of public about horses and other animals in wet and muddy fields and once again we are preparing for a similar season with the current weather conditions.

Unfortunately due to the very wet Winter we had to endure here in Guernsey last year the GSPCA had a number of animals that were reported to the GSPCA in concerning conditions.

Lorna Prince GSPCA Animal Welfare Manager said ‘With such a wet Winter last year many animals were affected, both wild and domestic.’

The GSPCA are always trying to ensure we match up the right animal for the right home.

Animals come into the Shelter for all sorts of reasons and we have to ensure each is suited to a home that can meet its needs.

The GSPCA is a self-supporting Guernsey charity and we depend on the people of the Island for the funding needed to maintain our work for the animal welfare and rescue work that is carried out 24 hours 7 days a week.

The normal adoption procedure is as follows:-
