Deacon the young cat has had his operation and now only has 4 teeth left

Submitted by GSPCA on 19:14, 22nd Mar, 2012 | 3

Deacon the young black and white cat who wasn’t very well when he arrived at the Shelter has now had his operation to remove a total of 26 teeth leaving him with only 4 left.

This was due to a medical issue that he had and the medical treatment and care has topped over £1000.  We would like to thank everyone so far that helped donate to this lovely little lad as without kind donations, monthly giving and legacies we wouldn’t be able to care for cats like Deacon.

An update on Adele the Grebe that came in covered in oil from Torey Canyon last month.

We are pleased to say she is doing well and the oil has now been removed.  We are caring for her until her water proofing returns before we release her to the wild.  Currently having physio on one of our pools she appears to be enjoying being back on the water.

Springing Numbers of Guinea Pigs & Rabbits

Submitted by GSPCA on 17:21, 7th Mar, 2012 | 1

From a bunny boom to a guinea pig bonanza the Animal Shelter is now inundated with over 20 rabbits, guinea pigs and rats in need of a good home.

From strays, unwanted litters and those that cannot be cared for due to an owner’s change of circumstances or welfare reasons the Shelter is literally bursting with these little animals looking for new homes.

Just last night another stray rabbit was found wandering and we urge any owners that lose their pets to ensure they register their details with the Shelter as we have stray animals brought in every day.

Another Casualty From Torrey Canyon

Submitted by GSPCA on 10:52, 22nd Feb, 2012 | 0

Last night we had yet another casualty from the Torrey Canyon.  We first received the call on Sunday but unable to get to contain the bird until last night the poor Great Crested Grebe has had to endure several nights covered in oil.

Yesterday Animal Collection Officer Geoff George managed to catch Adele as we’ve now named her and she will receive a number of bathes and hopefully some luck to survive before we can look to release her.

These birds are winter visitors to Guernsey and can be found in small numbers around our coast this time of year.
