Last night the GSPCA Wardens were called out to L'Islet to help rescue a very poorly injured cat.
The grey female cat had clear injuries and was taken directly to Isabelle Vets where she has been cared for overnight and undergoing x-rays and tests as she is very unwell before coming back to the GSPCA.
When she was rescued she was soaking wet, flat, lethargic, and barely moving her back legs.
Sadly she had no microchip or tag to contact an owner and the most apparent injury was her skin had been taken off of her tail.
We always love to see the animals that we have helped and rehomed living happily ever after and we recently had an update from a cat called Pumpkin and his owner.
Pumpkin was found as a stray nearly a year ago with all sorts of health problems and extremely thin. After a couple of months of care and treatment he improved and we were able to find him a new and loving home.
Anna Paint GSPCA Senior Animal Care Assistant said “Pumpkin when he first arrived had a lot of health problems and was so so thin.”
We were recently over joyed to get an update on Jack and Luli who was Jill, two cats that were adopted as kittens in the Summer of 2012.
Born at the Shelter from their mother Darwina a stray cat brought to the Shelter in the Spring of 2012 they were adopted and moved to live with Patti Bret in Alderney that Summer.
Anna Paint Senior Animal Care Assistant and head of the cattery said "We always love to get updates of the cats we have rehomed and hat a wonderful gift at Christmas to see how two of the kittens born at the Shelter are doing 4 years on."
Back in March a stray cat was rescued and made its way to the GSPCA. Sadly no owner could be found and the poor cat had a number of health issues.
The GSPCA named the cat Kit Kat who is a lovely man and who came to us as a stray with one of the worst mouths we have ever seen.
After a number of tests it was found that he has calicivirus, due to this the poor boy had to have all his remaining teeth removed and also had a few courses of antibiotics.
Because of his condition he needed to be a house cat with no other pets present, especially cats.
We always love to hear from owners of adopted animals from the GSPCA and last week we waved Iris the cat off to her new home.
Iris was found as a stray with a few minor health issues including fleas and a little fur missing and sadly with no microchip and despite trying to find an owner she wasn't claimed so was placed up for rehoming.
With all stray animals under Guernsey law we have to care for them for a period of 21 days to give an owner time to come forward and do what we can to reunite them.
Black cats have had a mixed reaction for centuries with many people believing them a bad omen even in 2016.
Despite each year at the GSPCA and many other charities promoting black cats in need of homes they continue to be the main colour of cat that is often skipped by when new adoptees are looking to adopt a cat.
Today is National Black Cat Day, a day to raise awareness of the many black and white cats waiting for homes in rehoming centres.
The team at the GSPCA are overjoyed to report that on Saturday Bob the diabetic cat was waved off by staff and volunteers to his forever home.
Nearly a year ago Bob was found as a very poorly grumpy stray cat which we never found his original owner.
It wasn't long before he was diagnosed with diabetes and after some time and a lot of tests both his health and temperament improved greatly during his time at the Animal Shelter.
Have you met our lovely Bob yet?
Bob came in as a very grumpy, sick stray cat last year but we quickly found he was only grumpy as he wasn't well.
After a series of tests with help from the vets we found Bob was diabetic and had to go on a special diet and insulin injections twice a day.
A year later and he is much improved and this week his medication was reduced as he is so stable.
On Sunday a very poorly, sick, thin cat was rushed to the vets and has been on a drip for the last 3 days.
The old stray cat was found near Les Banques and has had a number of health issues and sadly no microchip.
The condition the cat was found in meant it would have likely not made a recovery if it hadn't have been taken to the vets when it was found.
The team have called the cat Mercedes who is a black and white female of an age estimated over 10 years.
We have been checking lost and found reports but we have not yet found any matches.
