This Sunday see the GSPCA and support our stall once again at the GCVC Classic Vehicle Show 2023 at Saumarez Park in Castel.
The GCVC have a fun packed day so please pop down and see all the amazing stalls.
Free entry and parking at Home Farm at £5 per vehicle.
Lots to do and see so please support their day and our GSPCA stall raising funds for the many animals in our care.
At the GSPCA we are extremely busy with the daily arrival Spring baby birds needing hand rearing that have been found or rescued.
Baby birds are always where possible best left in the wild to be raised by their parents.
Yvonne Chauvel GSPCA Animal Care Supervisor said “With the lovely weather and start of Spring we are fast filling with baby birds.”
“We’ve had a lot of ducking, baby doves, finches and a variety of others.”
On Saturday 11th June 2023 at the GSPCA we received a report that someone had allegedly tried to run over gulls at the Charotterie.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “On Saturday 11th June around mid day we were informed a white car possibly a Fiat was driving up and down and hit possibly 2 gulls allegedly on purpose.”
“We attended and there was evidence of whole pieces of bread.”
“Any evidence or information please call 257261, email [email protected] and we have informed the authorities.”
With hot weather the GSPCA has started to receive calls and reports from the public from dogs locked in cars, dogs being walked on hot pavements, animals in direct sunlight, wildlife in need and we want to remind all pet owners of the real dangers to their pets and how you can help wildlife.
With the extreme warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs and other animals whether in cars or their pens are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
The GSPCA would like to say a massive thank you to the 2023 Saffery Rotary Walk who earlier this year announced the 26 charities benefiting from this years walk to be held in June.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “The GSPCA are delighted to be one of the 26 charities being supported by the 2023 Saffery Rotary Walk which takes place this weekend.”
“The Saffery Rotary Walk is an incredible event in terms of its organisation, the logistics, the numbers in volved, the amount raised and the fantastic charities it helps.”
The GSPCA recently had the pleasure of the team from Daisybeck Studios filming a new series for Channel being aired from the 15th June.
The programme called ‘Jersey and Guernsey’ is Narrated by Alan Titchmarsh and will showcase both islands, island life and on we believe the 4th episode on the 6th July will feature the GSPCA, some of our team and our work, especially with wildlife.
On Saturday evening the GSPCA had a report of a missing dog called Albie.
Albie the cocker spaniel had gone missing in the area between Icart car park and La Jaonnets bay.
Earlier today as Channel Islands Airsearch were going to help during a training mission around midday a report came in from the Icart area half way down a cliff.
The GSPCA headed down as did Cliff Rescue and the in-shore rescue team.
As Albie was located the CI Airsearch stood down and the Cliff Rescue team set up to retrieve Albie.
All around Guernsey each year businesses and offices have had their 4 legged friends come to work and this year Bring Your Dog To Work Day takes places today, Friday 23rd June.
Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.
When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work. Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?
Friday 19th May a team of staff from PwC once again spent a day volunteering at the GSPCA.
9 PwC staff arrived at 9am to be greeted by Tim Pellett the GSPCA Training and Community Officer.
They started with a lovely picture at the front of the Animal Shelter before they began a day of helping around site doing a huge amount.
Through the day they learnt about much of our work and met many of the team and finished with a tour of the site to see the many animals and much of our work.
